I'm a teacher so results day is just a countdown to having to listen to angry parents shouting about why their little darling didn't get straight As.

Irritatingly I was greatly helped by my pushy parents. The flip side is that I cared far too much about the results.

Do still have them on my CV though.

Because they are not that smart? What other explanation do they need? Dickhead parents.

Ended up successfully running a small finance office at one point, weirdly enough.

Maths was always one of my weakest subjects (along with chemistry), which is annoying as my dad and brother are very good at it. I was in the second set and doing fine, but my teacher left and was replaced by someone else who was useless. I ended up getting a D, but managed a C in my retake.

I kind of wish I tried harder with my GCSE's, but at the end of the day it doesn't really matter.

Are GCSEs the equivalent of Scottish Standard Grades

I've been losing my gooseberry fool about them this morning. My brother has come home with bad grades and according my sister (a teacher herself) the grade boundaries have seen a massive jump this year.
It's really soured my mood hearing that, it feels like my brother is being strawberry floated over by a change to the system made to push private school kids to work harder for their grades.

The government only seem capable of making half-baked, confusing, ineffective changes to the schools & examinations system. The system needs radical, evidence-led change, but the next best thing after that would just be leaving it alone. This politics-led "tweaking" of curricula and grade boundaries only make everything worse.

It's a number scale now isn't it ? instead of the old A* - F system it's 9 - 1. (9 being an A** to which I never knew there was before). Ella is starting year 8 in September, they've already given her predicted grades for her GCSEs, which I think is a little early.

That seems way too early to be giving out predicted grades

Like I'm sure there is some statistical relationship you can find, but what's the point in telling a child in year 8 what grade they are "predicted" to get in year 11? That's forever away at that age, and could be the cause of some anxiety.

Scotland no longer have Standard Grades, we have "National 5's".

Very proud of my 15 yo daughter recently achieving 7 x A1 grades. She got 98% in three subjects. Certainly doesn't take after me!
