Plenty of games from the last 10 or so years have either had a level or two in a London setting or even been entirely based there!

Including one from Ubisoft! (OK, that was Victorian London.)

It was, and I loved it.

Amazing graphics. :datass:

(okay, we can knock it down to 14 years then)

I haven’t seen the series (Sky, so it can get in the sea), but I’ve just found out it is actually connected to the PSP game!

The key appeal for me is it being 1) open world, and 2) modern day (or close enough anyway). It makes it relatable when you can explore somewhere and actually recognise it first-hand.

That said I'm actually more looking forward to Assassin's Creed Valhalla and that's over a thousand years in the past, but that's because I both really love that period of history and it will have locations much less represented than London!

I'm quite looking forward to Valhalla, too. For all Ubisoft's many and serious problems, I can't help but love their open-world games.

I've done quite a bit of study of the map that was stitched together over a year ago from the video that was captured of it. That map doesn't seem to have changed at all since, so it is reflective of the final game. It is as geographically correct as you could expect. Sort of. The major landmarks and roads are where you would expect them to be in relation to each other, but areas have been bolted onto each other that means a lot of what could be considered filler space has been cut. Such has brought about things such as Shaftesbury Avenue and Oxford Street running closer together than you would expect, which has also compacted Soho drastically to the point that Tottenham Court Road Station is a massively short distance from Picadilly Circus. Assuming, of course, that it is Tottenham Court Road and not some fictional one in its place. There's plenty of other situations like that, but it is still distinctly London.

Well, in Forza Horizon 4 you can get from Chesterton Mill to Broadway in about two minutes. In the real world, they’re 25 miles apart.

To be fair to Horizon, despite the detail that went into recreating Edinburgh, I don't think Playground were striving for geographical accuracy. It's still a great rendition of how the UK looks, though.

Not that it really matters much. As I say, it's still distincly London, and it'll still provide plenty upon plenty of hours of exploration. I certainly wouldn't expect a 1:1 recreation in any video game.

Condensed recreations are usually better in a game than 1:1

Indeed they are, since they cut out most of the filler that make areas of the map feel too bland and samey.

Watch Dogs 2 did a similar stitching of San Francisco for Video Game Purposes, while WD1 set some kinda record for local people making fun of it for its bizarro-ass Chicago.

To be fair to Three Lions I don't think you could categorise it anywhere other than Indie on that list! It's a pretty rough looking list of tracks in general but it could have been worse I suppose

Surprised the hip hop selection is so small, and 2 out of the 7 tracks are by Stormzy. There's so many more grime artists they could include, for a game set in London.
