Easily the most intersting Ubisoft game of the show, really exciting to see if they can pull this of.
With plenty of playstyles and a huge map, should be a blast but will it stand out in a very busy time period? As WD 2 suffered launching around the same time( but I think that was more to do with folks being disappointed with the original)

Also loved the John Wick Assassin reference.

Hope London is as good as Manhatten is in Spider Man

I always felt Watch Dogs was abit generic and without personality. This seems a lot better in that respect.

Still looks generic and without personality to me tbh...

I just wish I found its humour funny to be honest. Maybe it's my proximity to the city but when the people of London feel like a bit of a tourist level caricature it completely disinterests me unfortunately.

First one was. Second definitely wasn't.

I couldn't get on with the hipsters in WD2, they were all so strawberry floating cringe...

I understand what they're going for with the dystopian London setting but considering how rare it is for the city to be an open-world environment, I wish it was appearing as it looks today rather than their specific futuristic vision. Seeing landmarks like Big Ben with strange neon logos on them is just a bit distracting.

Hyde Park isn't in the game based on the map that can be seen at one point in the gameplay trailer, but there does seem to have been a bit of an extension around that area from the leaked map of last year. In fact, I'm pretty sure there might be other changes been made to the map, such as what looks to be a condensing (or expanding) of the area north of Westminster. In fact, that entire area north of the river looks different slightly to how the leaked map shows it. It could just be a difference between how the two maps are presented, but I'm sure the general outline of the maps is different.

On a second look, though... Is that not Hyde Park poking out from behind the label of City of Westminster?

Image

There's definitely something that resembles the roads around the Wellington Arch, and to the north-west of that is another green area. If Hyde Park is included on the map, then surely that dark area to the south of it is also a part of what we can explore. But if that's the case, how much further west does the map extend out? Or is that the furthest west we can go? The roads definitely have a touch of finality about them around those two bridges, so I think maybe it is. But that's still looking a greater area than what the leaked map showed, so it's all good.

Needs more Wimbledon. I don't really like the way Ubi refuse to make any kind of political statement, I'm sure they're going to tie themselves up in knots trying to make this game non political.

Did you not see the opening cinematic from last night. Seems quite political to me, even the setting of it is making a statement. Im not sure what you want them to say?

Don't think that cinematic from last night is actually the opening cinematic for the game though? It was just a short done by the Into the Spider-Verse guy.

Oh yeah I’m sure its not from the game, though it’d be great if they sprinkled a few of those throughout it.

What constitutes a political statement for you though? If you want them to plaster strawberry float Brexit across the Houses of Parliament I think you’re a bit deluded.

Having said that, for the last Far Cry didn’t they advertise that as a full on strawberry float White nationalist and Evangelicals simulator but then it turned out to be watered down bollocks.

I just hope we can have an explore mode where we can just mope about London sightseeing. If they have places like the viewing platform at The Shard that would be fantastic.

Yes, and they specifically said they were "not looking to make a political statement" with the plot and setting of The Division 2. Ubisoft definitely aren't alone in being only interested in packaging up and selling the aesthetic of political and social turmoil instead of actively suggesting what their creative teams' views on those subjects are, but they do have particular, routine form for it.

If they have a covid mode, then that would allow exploration around empty streets and shops (i've tried it, would recommend, especially when it comes to M&M's World).

That's what I was trying to get at in my last post. It'll just be some really obvious fascist governments are bad stuff they won't try and comment on the current UK political scene or try and make some deep political point. Hopefully it'll be a fun game though.
