The Amazon leak:

Watch Dogs Legion is set in a near-future, dystopian version of London. It’s a post-Brexit world in which society, politics and technology have changed and altered London’s fortunes. London is one of the most iconic cities in the world and has had a massive influence on all of Western Culture for centuries… London makes total sense for WD, as the city has one of the highest surveillance levels in the world making this the perfect playground.

Play as anyone, Every individual you meet in the open world, has a full set of animations, voice over, character traits and visuals that are generated & guided by gameplay systems.

Loved WD2. Looking forward to this.

Might want to edit the title, I had no idea it was a Watch Dogs sequel until I started to read the OP. It might have just autocorrected to Watchdog.

...but if the game is going to be ANYTHING like Driver: San Francisco, it is definitely going to be a hard pass for many gamers.

Driver San Francisco was actually rather good.

I thought the first game was good but not great (I got it for free).

I got the second game for free with my graphics card and I loved it.

I hope to get this game free again and enjoy it even more :toot:

Here for the 'our games aren't political' Ubi voxpops for their post-Brexit game.

I hugely enjoyed the original Watch Dogs - playing it again earlier this year - but I've yet to play the second one.

I love the idea of a detailed game in a London environment although I do hope the noted "Brexit" aspects are handled with a light touch.

The description has me wondering whether the leak is genuine or not. Would an "AAA" game really talk of Brexit and have the infamous Ubi-word "iconic" mentioned? And use the phrase "London makes total sense for WD..."?

London has been rumoured for Watchdog 3 for over a year now. Also worth noting the spelling error in the store page too as it was likely meant as placeholder text (the article states the listing is confirmed as coming from Ubisoft themselves).

Mind if I ask why you'd want the Brexit stuff handled lightly? Games like Not Tonight have shown Brexit can be a useful device to take to extremes and create a different sort of dystopic narrative

I'd take that bet. There's no way they're not mentioning the surveillance state, and Brexit is going to play into that perfectly if it's an aspect of the game.

Just seen your edit, was Not Tonight any good? It just looks like a shameless Papers Please clone and as subtle as a brick

I played some of the first one, after waiting for it to release on Wii U and then ended up not really enjoying it all that much, it was alright but certainly didn’t live up to the expectations I had for it from the trailer and pre release footage. Subsequently I never played the second one, I heard it was meant to be good though. Chances are I won’t get round to playing the third one either, although it does sound Like it could be quite good so far.

It was...ok. The fiction was interesting in that it used Brexit instead of 1984 as the basis for its political dystopia and the gameplay was fun enough. But you're correct that it was a shameless Papers Please rip off to the point where I genuinely don't get a) how Lucas Pope didn't say or do something and b) how the devs went to work each day and actually finished the thing given that they were almost literally basing their entire project around someone else's mechanics.

Whenever I create something I'm often paralysed by fears that adding in aspects inspired by other works is just copying. Not Tonight is just copying.

If nothing else it’ll be nice to see London recreated using current generation tech. I think the last time was actually The Getaway Black Monday in 2004?

I would prefer a gangster ‘em up (also it feels like the only logical way of bringing in guns outside of terrorism) but I’ll give it the benefit of the doubt nonetheless.

Personally I hope there's no guns at all. They felt utterly superfluous in WD2

Assassin's Creed: Syndicate? Or do you mean a "modern" portrayal

I feel sick to the back teeth of Brexit; in my opinion the differing viewpoints about what it is and what it isn't has caused huge divide in our society. I play videogames to enjoy different worlds and I definitely don't want Brexit entering that space  .

Definitely, KK; I'd love to see London (or anywhere else in the UK) presented with decent tech. I think that maybe ZombiU was the last time I saw recognisably British streets in a game.
