I feel sick to the back teeth of Brexit; in my opinion the differing viewpoints about what it is and what it isn't has caused huge divide in our society. I play videogames to enjoy different worlds and I definitely don't want Brexit entering that space  .

This is fair enough! But WD2 certainly didn't shy away from real world political phenomena; privacy, the rise of the tech-billionaire, the hoarding of wealth by the 1%... In fact it was perhaps the most openly anti-capitalist game ever produced by a capitalist organisation.

I'd hazard that if you're looking for escapism from the world's woes, this might not be the game for you!

Looking forward to this, the London setting will be a welcome change from the usual US locations.

True, Taf, although I'm a bit wary of the objectives of companies who to try and align themselves - in terms of product positioning, advertising or publicity - with movements, trends and other things generally perceived as being progressive thinking, in order to make themselves seem positive by association. The vast majority of companies exist to make money and, with that objective, it's hard not to be evil sometimes.

Personally I'm hoping that any political themes will be handled with a light touch. Anything more and, yeah, I may be put off from a series that I've enjoyed previously!

I couldn't agree more. I hate the current trend of Woke Brands. In fact, I watched this just yesterday:

WD2 was certainly playing on the Anonymous trend of the past few years. It was essentially Mr Robot the game. But it was done with a level of thoughtfulness not usually associated with cheap "lol we're changing our twitter av to a gay pride flag for this one and only day" trend cash-ins. It wasn't just a few missions, the whole game was saturated with a clear anti-corporate message. Yes, this was antifa as approved by a board of directors but it was representation of a radical side of politics that largely goes unseen by AAA games. Which was a good thing in my eyes.

Corporations exist to make money yes. But they still employ people who want to tell a story, or send a message. If the company believes it can make money off the message that making money is bad, you bet your bottom dollar they'll sell the gooseberry fool out of it.

I would say here that if you've managed to enjoy the last 2 WD games without engaging in the political messages they've spun then this is truly an impressive feat!

I've only really got experience from the first game. I didn't really pay too much attention to the story, to be honest; I recognised the links to a "Big Brother" society and the theme of data control and it felt, to me, to be a little heavy-handed, but I liked the styling of the environments and the action of the gameplay. I've not completed it - I advanced many more of the side missions than the core story - but I'd place it as one of the games that I've really enjoyed in recent years.

The second really doubles down on the story, believe me, while also being a much better playing game. I'd be interested to see what you'd think of it.

Side Mission 5 : Uncover who funded the Brexit campaign by hacking Figel Narage's email account.

Theodore Adorno talks alot about the Culture Industry, including one part i can't quote from memory about how messages of rebellion and non-conformity are celebrated and marketed in the forms of daring heroes defeating authority, but only if the values they project are not taken seriously.

It’s a bit weird to release a game set in post-Brexit Britain when by the time the game is out nobody in post-Brexit Britain will have any money to buy it.

A quick google and I'm already knee deep into this:

That's some good gooseberry fool right there.

EDIT: There's some, er, dodgy terminology in here. Jewish intellectuals? :(

I was expecting an announcement of this, coupled with the London setting, at E3. Thanks to Amazon UK, my excitement is very high indeed.

With the whole playable NPC mechanic - I'm quite unsure what practical reason there would be, but for now it sounds somewhat innovative - and the title of Legion, I think it's fair to say this'll be akin to WD2's rebellious uprising against the government, just on a much grander scale.

Blatantly one-upmanship over GTA. Oh, you can play as one of three characters? Well we let you play as ANYONE IN THE GAME.

Online multiplayer Watchdogs came. Call me pessimistic, but I am getting strong vibes of more 'games as a service' exploitative bullshit from this. Could be wrong, of course, but seems most of these things are just designed to cash in.

The multiplayer modes in Watch Dogs 2 were quite fun, as was encountering other real-world players. An extension of that would be ok by me, so long as it’s not at the expense of the solid single player experience. Cautiously looking forward to this.
