Watch Dogs Legion is the most impressive E3 demo I've played in years

Let me tell you about Abe Welch. He's a hired goon who is now in a hospital. I put him there, after performing a melee takedown on him in Camden Market during a mission in Watch Dogs Legion. It was at this point I decided to save him to my collection of tracked people in the game. A menu screen tells me he hates Dedsec, no surprise after I knocked him out. But, having hacked into the hospital, I can now prioritise his care, which will begin to change his mind on Dedsec. From there, I can help him with the other troubles in his life, like his sister who's being harassed. Eventually, I will have the chance to win Abe Welch to my cause. If all goes well, he'll have gone from being a random enemy goon to my new playable character.

If this works as advertised, and as it works now according to the above, this could be something very special indeed.

I just can’t get my head around how they could have done this. The possibilities just seem so endless, it makes me think it’s going to have a lot of smokes and mirrors going on.

Yes, stuff like this and the idea of recruiting anyone sound incredible but almost certainly in the "too good to be true" category.

Really excited to find out the reality of it and at least it shows a developer trying to push things a bit beyond - bigger guns, bigger spaces, bigger explosions etc. Even if the end result is not perfect I'm down with supporting that ambition.

I wonder if “completing” the main story will actually be quite short and concise, but due to the way you can get from A to B, you’ll want to keep doing it again and again to explore the different characters and possibilities.

It's going to be like RDR2, when people were posting about all these amazing, organic interactions with NPCs, and then weeks later, you realise everyone's having the exact same interactions, and it's all scripted. It's just a case of how many different scenarios they script and how regularly they will be recycled.

That sounds absolutely amazing. If they pull this off as advertised, it could be my game of the year 2020.

It says in the article they have 20 different archetypes, and each of the hundreds of different NPCs will be one of these. 20 is still shitloads though if each is fully written and voiced.

I mean, games aren't magic. It's all smoke and mirrors. What matters here is that, so far, both the smoke and the mirrors are very, very good.

Trailer looks great, the city layout is looking pretty accurate, and i'm loving the futuristic London buses.

Techradar has taken an in-depth look at how accurate Watch Dog’s representation of London appears to be:

I think it looks brilliant.

I loved the first one even it got some flaws and the sequel was a lot better.

So I have a faith with them for this one.

https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2019 ... ogs-legion

Ubisoft has once again partnered up with HitRecord to give fans the opportunity to have their songs featured in its upcoming hacktivist sequel, Watch Dogs Legion.

"From the very beginning, we have always wanted to include our fans and the community in the making of our game," Ubisoft said (thanks, RPS). "Thanks to our partnership with HitRecord, our talented Watch Dogs fans and the HitRecord community have the opportunity to participate together in the creation of the musical landscape for our open world version of London.

"Whether you're a musical composer, writer, singer, player, or someone with big ideas and a lot of passion... we are super excited to hear your music composition. You can get started right away!"

This isn't the first time Ubisoft has collaborated with HitRecord, an "open community for creative collaboration"; you might remember that a similar promotion was launched at Ubisoft's E3 briefing last year.

Contributors can offer songs - or parts of songs - for themes like "Aggressive Grim Punk Song" or "Teasing Funk Pop Song", with the winning contributors expected to receive payment by January 2020.

This time around, however, HitRecord has been clear that it will pay $2,000 (which is around £1600) for each song that makes the cut, split between the people whose "contribution is in the final version that's in the game". This means you might secure hundreds of dollars, you might end up with just enough to buy a pizza, or you might end up with nothing at all; "as with every creative endeavour, some ideas won't develop or work out as we expected, and some pieces won't be the right fit for the game," Ubisoft said.

https://www.kotaku.co.uk/2019/07/15/ubi ... ion-debate

Ubisoft first tried this model with the science-fiction game Beyond Good and Evil 2, which is still in development. It has been criticised as a way to replace salaried or contracted work with “spec” work in which creatives volunteer their time and labour without knowing for sure whether they’ll be paid.

“This sucks,” tweeted Mike Bithell, developer of Thomas Was Alone and the upcoming John Wick Hex game, under the “nospec” hashtag. “Pay people for their labour. Stop exploiting fans and hobbyists, while devaluing the work of those with the gall to actually expect consistent payment for work done. Do better Ubi, we’re counting on you.”

Seems shadey to me

Huh. Thought I'd already posted in this thread. Guess not. Thought it looked good back in 2019, but I just really want to get exploring this interpretation of London. With Ubisoft's event only a few days away and this confirmed to be there, we'll be able to see just how much this game has evolved since last year.

This game looks like it could get quite a decent upgrade on the new consoles.

Utter madness if they really plan to release this and Assassin's Creed within weeks of each other. I still haven't completed the last AC, it's so big.

They don't care about people finishing their games, only buying them.

I think you need to take a break from gaming mate, you seem to hate everything to do with paying money for them.
