If The Rock spent less time cooking and more time training he may not be as affected by such moves.

Too busy making movies instead of cooking. Sad times.

As discussed in the PC gaming thread, that some shit-tier optimisation there. The game looks extremely similar to WD2 yet requires higher system specs than Cyberpunk and RDR2

It's odd; I don't think it's unfair to say those specs are really, excessively...well, excessive. But obviously I'm against crunch.

I dunno. Badly optimized is badly optimized.

The game was delayed for six months. You'd expect them to have put in some sort of optimisation during that time. Unless they don't care about anything other than the highest settings?

Worth remembering this game got hit hard by its delay. This thing's been in production for 5 years according to Clint Hocking's streams, and we're smack in the middle of all Ubi's chickens coming home to roost across both finances and their leadership being gross, and PC ports of these games were dubious on the best of days.

Couple that with all the raytracing tech coming in hot and this being an open world game trying both RT and a bunch of other "next gen" systems strained to fit on last-gen hardware, and yeah. The weird way people are rendered even looks like it's stuck on WD2's strain of that engine, which was already struggling with a shitload of seemingly pretty ingrained? tech issues.

Makes me wonder if base PS4/Xbone performance will be intolerable.

Ubisoft on reddit has confirmed that the Xbox Series X and PS5 versions of the game will run at 4K 30fps with ray tracing. No idea about Xbox Series S and current gen though.

Just saw a news story about this. 30 FPS on the new systems sounds pretty weak; I know it's 4K but I'd kinda thought that new gen meant 60 FPS. I'm guessing that that current gen systems will be hitting 30 FPS even if they're running at 1080p. Maybe Series S could be the sweet spot; 1080p at 60 FPS? Then again, no way could they do that as it'd outshine the bigger machines!

I've never experienced ray tracing in a game so I'll be happy to see that but not being 60fps is a disappointment.
Hopefully, as they get more experienced with the new hardware they can manage 60fps with it included.

Why are so many companies strawberry floating OBSESSED with 4K when barely anyone has a 4K display?

Literally everyone has a 60hz display, yet they target resolution that barely anyone is going to benefit from, strawberry floating why?

I wouldn't say it's barely anyone-35% of UK households had a 4k TV in 2019 and that will be even higher now (https://www.ofcom.org.uk/about-ofcom/la ... and-4k-tvs).

I do agree though that I would prefer developers to prioritise 60hz over 30hz. I feel the gain from 30 to 60 is better than the gain you get in resolution. Unfortunately developers have a long history of prioritising resolution and that element of graphics over everything else. Resolution is "sexier" than fps for whatever reason.

4K is easier to advertise.

I suspect a large chunk of the people with a 4K display is down to them having it "by default" rather than actually caring that much about it. It's harder to buy a set that is exclusively 1080P these days so anyone who has upgraded in the last few years is probably sat with a 4K TV even if they actually have no interest in the added resolution.
