It's not had a bad episode so far and it's probably the show I look forward to the most each week. Which is saying something as Rick and Morty, The Mandalorian and Castle Rock are all great at the moment as well.

So yeah, it's well worth watching.

I was a little unsure of it at first, because it's not immediately obvious how it links to the original, but by the end of the first episode I was sold.

Excellent I shall take the plunge on it then!

I've only watched the first two episodes of R&M season 4 so it's early days but I was a little let down myself - the show doesn't feel like it's got quite the same fizz about it as it had in the first couple of season. Still a damn fine show though.

I'm not aware of Castle Rock, is it the sequel to Fraggle?

R&M's not been as funny this season, but it's been decent enough.

Castle Rock is a Horror anthology show set in the town of Castle Rock. The hook for it though is that it's based in the "Kingverse" and draws from various Stephen King characters, settings and plots to tell new stories. It's in Season 2 just now and it's got a lot of inspiration from Misery and Salems Lot. I'm a big Stephen King fan so I love all the little nods and easter eggs, and it's especially cool to see established characters "remixed" to tell different stories. Main one this season is Annie Wilkes being basically the main character but having a different background and story around her. Some King associated actors too. Season 1 had Sissy Spacek (Carrie) and Bill Skarsgard (Pennywise), while season 2 has had Tim Robbins (Shawshank Redemption). There's probably more to be fair.
Season 1 is decent but season 2 has been really good so far and if you're a King fan it's well worth watching.

Even if you're not it's still good TV.

Finished episode 7. Even though I knew the twist thanks to Twitter it still hit like a hammer.

Lol

Seriously though, best show of the decade contender right here. Amazing stuff.

I'm going to keep bringing up The Leftovers until you watch it.

If there has I've missed them

Yeah it's pulled it all together well - and concerns I had from opening episodes it was setting up threads that would be unsatisfying resolved (or never pay off) seem unfouned.

Has it been renewed for S2?

God after something like the last four episodes in a row, I've thought "That was the best episode of the series" and then the next has been even better.

No but Lindelof has said he probably wouldn't do another season.

Ep 8 down.

I'm not enjoying it quite as much as before, but I think that's because it's got to cash the massive cheques it was providing in the first half. But it's still excellent.

Man I'd love to see how the alt-right Rorschach fans reacted to Dr Manhattan becoming black.

That was the best episode yet, fantastic stuff.

I almost got caught out and missed the post credits scene, luckily I didn’t just switch it off and had it going in the background when the final scene came on.

Question

The Viedt stuff is happening long term right, and probably in the past? Each cake is an "anniversary" and the trial was meant to be a year long wasn't it? So is it building up the present day?

But when earlier cakes had a horseshow (ep1 I think?) he said it wasn't time for that yet....how did he know?

1. Post stupid statement devoid of all factual basis.
2. Say you won't read any replies.
3. ????
4. PROFIT!!

And done.

It  answers it's questions (well most of them) but like the comic leaves a few unanswered (and the few "what happens next" bits up to your imagination)

I think the last episode might be one of the weaker, but still good. And the overall package has been brilliant.

I was really hoping at the end that she’d step into the swimming pool, fall through the water and shout “mummy strawberry floater!!”

A great series/season, one of the nest things on TV in the last few years. Regina King and Jeremy Irons were fantastic.

I was very happy with the final episode, I almost don't want there to be another season. The show overall was a masterpiece.

I realise he's an egotist and wouldn't assume anyone would dare hack his computer but setting his password as his own name? Really?

It's a gag from the comic.

It wrapped things up a little too neatly but overall was an excellent story well told.

The more I think about it, the more this series cements my opinions of Lindeloff rather than subverts them: he's a master of worldbuilding and mystery but poor at satisfying conclusions.

The start of the series was far, far better than the latter half, the turn coming after the flashback episode which was indeed remarkable. Everything after felt a little bit like going through the motions, exceptional motions though they were. The finale itself, after some thought, was the first time the series didn't feel it was doing justice to the comics. It was far too optimistic and neat, something the earlier episodes and the comics themselves never were.

The majority of the series was a twisted mirror held to the face of the comics, an inversion or recursion of all the points made and lessons told. It understood them so much more than the trite nonsense that was the movie, a trap the Before Watchmen graphic novel series also apparently fell into but the last episode didn't feel right at all. It felt more like an attempt to redeem that world and those characters, to provide an ending that looked up with a smiley face rather than down from a rain-slicked building in disgust. And that, to me, isn't very Watchmen.

I don’t think the last episode really redeemed anybody. Ozymandias looked like he was getting arrested, Manhatten was dead, the Seventh Calvary were mostly wiped out, but Cyclops almost certainly still exists. Judd Crawford was exposed as a white supremacist and they didn’t flip to make him a good guy (as I was expecting). Lady True (sp?) failed but other than Sister Knight and Looking Glass, nobody else came out with much glory. Robert Redford will be exposed as having covered up the squid attack and plenty of Congressmen are going to have to answer questions as to how much they knew and if they were part of the Seventh Calvary.

I didn’t detect much optimism in that world, the whole government is strawberry floated and the threat of nuclear war is coming back. And we have no idea if Sister Knight would have any of Manhatten’s powers in order to stop it.

I loved it from start to finish and I'm quite happy with how it ended.

It was optimistic in some areas, while still being pretty grim in others.

I do feel bad for Nite Owl though. Guy barely got a mention.

In Watchmen the comics not only does the bad guy win but he's proven correct. The only thing the 'heroes' did was fail to stop him saving the world.

Here, both nefarious plots are defeated. Cyclops is wiped out (Trieu makes a point of stating all the leadership is there). The villain of the original plot gets his comeuppance out of nowhere (with Laurie suddenly deciding world peace is secondary to personal vengeance). Everything is wrapped up and the one point of ambiguity felt token with both potential outcomes being positives.

Watchmen the comics weren't about grimness for grimness' sake, they were an inversion of the superhero genre. The ending of Watchmen the series is not part of that inversion; the heroes literally save the day. Considering the rest of he series continued that subversion so well, and in a way that wasn't directly apeing the originals, this was a disappointing ending for me.

The leadership of Cyclops might all have been there, but not all of Cyclops was there. They can easily rebuild.

We don’t know if Ozzy gets his comeuppance, Laurie may change her mind or Ozzy might have some tricks to play at a trial. The government (if it has any sense) would stop any trial or else they are implicated in the false squid attack. Either the government collapses after covering up mass murder, or the government continues to cover it up. Neither of those options are optimistic and neither option ties everything up neatly.
