I'm going to see this on Saturday. I'm not sure how excited I am about it, to be honest. I've never read the comic and the trailer, while alright, didn't really blow me away. I think I'm just looking forward to forming an opinion on a film that will probably divide it.

I was going to buy the comic and read it before the film, but that's obviously not going to happen now.

You should read it while watching the film.

I think there's a trip to the Glasgow Imax being arranged. I'll probably see it then.

It can't compare to the comic, the medium just doesn't allow it. It can however be a very good film and I hope it is. I've booked to see the 10.00pm showing tomorrow and I'm looking forward to it.

Just back from one of the preview screenings. I have to say I really enjoyed it; apart from the ending being changed slightly it is very faithfull to the comic with very little actually being omitted. Going to have to get myself a copy of Tales of the Black Freighter on Blu-ray when it comes out.

Isn't the Black Freighter supposed to be re-packaged to be included with the main film when it comes out on DVD and Blu Ray? If so, I'll wait and save my money.

It's coming out as a separate release pretty soon. I imagine it'll be reintegrated into a director's cut at a later date.

That's what I mean't? I know it's being released seperately, and you've answered my question with the second half of your sentence. I'll wait until DVD release (with Black Freighter added) when it comes out as one.

Obligatory Downfall/Watchmen mashup. Spoilered because it discusses the nature of the end of the film

Well...

8/10.

It's incredible hard to judge though.

It's possibly the best "2.5 hour" Watchmen film you could expect (the DC might top it).

There's (obviously) massive cuts from the book - but it's never too obvious, and the minor inserts further the plot changes made well.

As a film on it's own? I don't know. I was seeing it through the eyes of a Watchman fan. I think it would be about the same - but I can see why people hate it.

There's by my memory maybe 5 fight scenes. Only 2.5 of them have slow mo. The prison one released is the worst.

There is ALOT of slowdown...but I think it's mostly necessary, because of voice overs etc. In comics you might get a minute speech in one panel. The biggest is the DrM chapter - which is, again, done very well on film.

Re:Rated 18. Oh yeah. There's blue dongs, and lots of arses/boobs on show. And some VERY graphic (yet somehow "real") violence.

Walter's actor is hands down the best. Although all are pretty good.
The only weak link is Ozzie. Goode just seems horribly miscast. He seemed like a wet, foppish emo kid for the first 2/3. He brings it back a bit in the last 1/3. Generally the weak link though - feel sorry for the actor. He's not bad. Just wrong.

Spoilers (re:ending)

Yes they changed it. Yes, IMO, it's less likely it would have united the world, but given the short running time and context of the film...the ending works.

What I thought was annoyingly cut was the last Dr M/Ozzie speech...

Just back from it. I thought it was brilliant, mainly for Rorschach and Nite Owl, who were both perfectly cast. I just loved the general feel of the world, really captured the feeling Moore was trying to portray imo. I was quite surprised at how violent and gritty the film was as well, how it got a 16's cert here in Ireland is an absolute mystery to me. I'll be interested to see the reaction from someone who hasn't read the novel though, as i really don't know what they'd make of it. Also, thank god the general age of the people at my screening was mid-20's as i'd say the sight of Doc Manhattan strolling around with his doppelganger out for much of the film will be sending the kids into hysterics.

Saw it earlier. Really good, i thought, i haven't read the thing but as a film it worked really well.

Someone also told me about the different ending from in the book after we'd left the cinema, and to be honest i was glad they had changed it.

I don't see the hype of the whole WATCHMEN thing.

I may see the movie sometime to see how it is.

I just got back from seeing this, my perspective is that of a person who did not read the comics.

What can I say, it was pretty cool, looking at what the end should have been and what it was, seemed a bit shitty, even for me, someone who has not read the comic(s) the end was a bit out of place and a bit un-necassary, Also killing off rorshack (or whatever his name was) seemed un-necassary.

It had several traits that reminded me of 300, too much penis action But... Titties!!!!

It seemed to end a bit like lord of the rings as well, so many possible strawberry floating endings, and after watching it, it seemed like I had been there forever!

All in all I enjoyed it, a few things that seemed out of place, but it made for an interesting film.

That second trailer shows far too much. Shouldn't have clicked to watch it. :fp:

I thought the comic was a great read (but as of now don't think it's fully worthy of all the acclaim), and I'm really looking forward to watching this tomorrow. Hopefully it'll be like The Dark Knight in terms of how it plays out and how well the film adheres to the dark themes of the book. I guess it's mostly about how well they portray the characters rather and how well they put the story across rather than how much of it they fit in. The plot itself is nothing special, it's everything else.

The news that there might even be a director's cut is also great. So long as it actually improves, unlike the Donnie Darko one.
