I think (and I'm also hoping) this will be a next-gen title. Either way this latest tease has me pumped for a proper reveal, even if it takes the form of a pre-rendered trailer.

Is it just me, or do the Arkham games seem like absolutely ages ago now? Even Knight, which was this-gen seems like it was a different era.

The original Asylum was a great game and a genuine surprise for a lot of people, including me. It was surpremely accomplished considering that most licensed games around that time were a bit naff.

I was one of those who didn't mind the formula being expanded in City. It felt different - I remember reading someone saying Arkham was likeSiper Metroid and City was like ALTTP, which was an apt comparison.

I think City, then Origins and then Knight sort of milked it all a little dry. We had three games in about four years and there was never really a proper evolution between them, unlike the Asylum to City jump. I didn't mind the Batmobile, I guess, but it didn't feel like the world was really getting expanded, and I felt the story was a little weak.

Still, seeing as they feel quite long ago, I'd be happy to revisit the series. Was tempted to go play Knight again, as it's the only game I haven't replayed. I'm a little apprehensive that with WB Montreal making it, it'll be a bit of a facsimile and iterative update, sort of like what Origins was.

Always find it a shame that Origins gets dismissed as much as it does. It has arguably some of the best boss fights in the series, an awesome Batman Returns-esque Christmas theme and was just all round great fun. It was a little rougher around the edges but it was still a great wee game.

Didn't they release it only on PS3/360 just as PS4/Xbone came out? I think that was the reason I skipped Origins.

It was late on yeah, but well worth playing.

It was a good game but I thought it was definitely the worst, even compared to Knight which a lot of people don't like as much.

The problem was that the "rough around the edges" part was basically that they fiddled wit the combat slightly. This meant that it felt ever so slightly off compared to the other games (I think countering was the worst cuplort). This was quite a major part of the game seeing as tje combat was its major strength.

As for boss battles, I can't really remember that much about them. It wasn't helped by the B-tier villain roster, though I don't think boss fights have been a highlight in an of the series' games. They have always struggled to merge them with the combat system or just relied on the same Titan-style fights against big lumbering enemies (the first game did this about four times).

Didn't the game also have some pretty bad bugs, especially on PC? I was on the 360 and a few of my sidequests glitched and were unable to be completed if I remember correctly.

The setting was good though. Might have to get the remastered versions as I think they are now regularly below a tenner.

I always thought Origins was a pretty fantastic game, it was only the techinical problems that let it down, a prime game for the remaster treatment.

Would certainly explain Arkham Knights appearance on PS+ and GamePass, BL2 kept cropping up on free to play/subscription services in the build up to BL3. Looking at BL3 sales figures doesn't look like it did it any harm.

Although I've not played Knight this is certainly true given how utterly gash the boss fights in the first two are :dread: :dread: :dread: (Mr. Freeze aside) Also the detective bits!

I'd love them to forget the big open world and go something more linear like Asylum again. Gliding around City was fun for a while but pretty sure I just ended up fast travelling when I could.

I'm actually playing through Origins for the first time now and I'm having a blast. It does have a great atmosphere to it and it's been so long since I played Arkham City it's all fresh again.

I loved Arkham Asylum but I felt the series drastically lost focus once it went open world. I really didn't like City and despised Arkham Knight. Origins was OK, mainly because of the Christmas theme.

I really like the open worlds of City and Knight, it was very Batman but I smaller more intricate locations like Asylum are my favourite games to play. Maybe new console's will allow them to do the best of both, an open world with huge Asylum like locations within.
