One baseball cap I'll never get rid of is an old black navy (as in the boats navy) baseball cap of HMS Exeter, which served during the Gulf War. When I lived in the Middle East in the late 80s/early 90s I actually got taken on the ship with my parents for a tour, as my mum worked for the British Embassy.

They'd offload crates full of booze and pork for all the ex-pats, so these tours were quite the hot ticket!

The hat itself is probably quite rare and holds sentimental value, so it's a keeper

Not all, fedoras are daft, but beanies, caps, and those Australian hats with corks on are ok as they do serve a practical purpose.

As a bald guy, I can confirm that wearing a hat in summer (sunburn) and winter (cold) is pretty much essential .

And here. Baseball caps to keep the sun off my face in summer and a beanie or a flatcap in winter because I enjoy looking like an old hipster or burned out snowboarder.

I try and go for upmarket when I’m teaching with flatcap and my favourite tweed coat but it’s usually the same here - hoodie, unkempt beard and beanie hat when I have no commitments!

I like to wear a flat cap or beanie in cold, wet weather to keep my head warm. In the summer if it's particularly hot I like to wear a baseball cap to stop my head burning.

The joys of being bald.

I've decided to order a hat or cap each time I get garment supplies for my business because they cost very little to get the right hat. Now I have an unstructured bill cap (not baseball or flat style normal cap) and its died turquoise in pigment dye. Very summer.

First impressions are good, it fits very well, not sure if the bill is too long, but as my face is quite protruding, it probably helps balance that out while obscuring my slightly large forehead, so that may be a good counterintuitive thing.

As part of a uniform, I have a navy t shirt with a pocket. I'll brand the pocket part. Deliberately trying to look different and feel a bit fresh. If it makes people go away while I'm installing signs that's fine while still being curious what I'm doing (which makes me feel like I'm doing valuable work for the community while also the possibility of generating interest).

It is a bit loud but I am also quite loud and odd at times so I feel like maybe I can do it. My brothers both pull them off Ok and we look basically the same.

I will report back on whether I can pull it off. This is my "wear caps" story, thanks for reading.

Bonus story: I somewhat regret not knicking a nice look flat cap left somewhere but maybe they (the owner) picked that up, as I can't seem to buy those.

I googled "can I pull off a cap?" And realised there is this thing called style guides. None of them recommend that, but I can't see the problem, it protects your neck from the sun and it also reveals your face to people. I think I will adjust the cap at any given moment as the circumstances dictate.

It's a bit of a zero fuckism anyway, nobody at all conscientiously wears a cap in adulthood without some degree of daring. Whether or not they are actually cool is another matter.

I've been told a 5 panel cap would be better to fit my head (not that anyone has seen me wearing one for at least 20 years). I think it is made up more of patches on the sides etc. Can anyone recommend one? My bro can only recommend me Japanese brands.

I wear a plain blue baseball cap.

I can't wear sun glasses as I wear glasses, and I have a bald patch now growing at the back of my head. I don't want that to get burnt, hence the hat.

When i was at the Bristol Harbour Festival, i saw a guy wearing a fedora, not only that, but he also had a proper hipster beard and a Nintendo t shirt to help complete the look.

I can only assume that the guy was a 2008 era onm'er.

I have a trilby but I could never wear a fedora.

Got a couple of Formula 1 caps but ironically, I don't like to wear them because of how much they cost! I tend to sweat a fair bit in the heat and can't stand to see the sweatband on a £35 cap get wrecked. My messed-up logic.

F1 caps are stupidly expensive, even the older ones previous seasons are pricey.

The most up to date one i have could well be a 2009 Brawn GP design.
