Weird jobs (employment, not sex acts)

My mate's dad makes the hyper-realistic baby dolls they use in therapy when women have stillbirths.

A woman I used to work with quit her job as a healthcare assistant in the NHS to become an undertaker (damning indictment!)

Any more unusual jobs in your circles of friends/family?

I wouldn't say strange jobs, but BS jobs. Someone I know on FB has their self created role as "Social connector" - "I help expert entrepreneurs find their 1,000 true fans". The world has gone mad.

1,000 doesn't even sound like that many. It can't be that hard to get a business that many likes or followers surely?

in this case it wouldnt be the people who click "Like" and then never do a thing again - it would be the ones who interact, spend money, and bring others to the brand.

We have a lass in mental health that used to be an undertaker. We also had a 5ft professional boxer.

My cousin is a clown. Legit travels with the circus.

The funny thing is I kind of do think being a good full time mum or dad is one of the hardest jobs in the world if the person is trying to do it full on the best they can, the unfortunate thing is most of the people who go on and on about it and list themselves with titles like best mummy etc are the ones who sit smoking over little Timmy's head while he smashes stuff up and they pat themselves on the back.

An ex-colleague of mine spend a summer testing out Boris bikes by riding them round the warehouse to make sure they worked.

I looked after my sister's kids for a night and it drove me up the wall. Also you don't get all the stuff about worrying about what they're going to do with the rest of their lives.

I slightly blow up condoms to make sure there are no holes in them. It pays surprisingly well but I feel like a bit of a prick doing it as a profession.

I once painted the inside of a water filtration tank with bituminous paint near Settle.

I once saw a documentary about maggot farming. That's an actual thing.

I've just read that there is actually a person who is paid to watch paint dry.

I was at a party this year and I got taking to a bloke who fixes pipe organ control systems.

One of my dad's friends makes props for movies. He mainly works on models and he made a good few of the models for the new star wars films and things.

I spent several summers operating a log flume. That was a nice and easy job right up until the point where someone lost a fake eye in the bottom of the log. Thankfully we didn't find it staring up at us, must have washed out the drain at the back.

Being an IT literate child I used to help various friends of the family out with an technical support type activities relatively frequently when I was young, usually I would get a few quid as a thanks for this and as they help tended to be pretty easy I didn't mind too much.

One time however I was helping someone with some general maintenance on their PC, it was the usual stuff for the most part: "It's just got so slow over time, what's going on!?" (try not clicking on every dodgy button and installing 500 strawberry floating toolbars on IE you moron!) But once I had sorted most things out the guy then starts asking me about internet filtering and the like - how to block access to certain types of site etc. Now he was a grown man and didn't have kids or anything so I was a bit curious as to what he wanted to block but didn't want to pry exactly, so I tell him that there are various ways that he could go about doing something like that if he wanted, how it could be customised to control what was and wasn't blocked.

He seemed happy enough but then says "here's the kind of thing I want you to block" and starts typing all manner of gooseberry fool into his AOL search bar (yep this was back when AOL was "a thing"

) - "blonde deepthroat", "country girl spit roast", "interracial initiation" "latex outfit suppliers" etc. I didn't know what the strawberry float to do as the various search results started coming up, "I need to block these kinds of things" he asks! Okay - I get it mate, I don't need to see examples of what you've been looking at! I could tell from his history and autocomplete that this wasn't exactly the first time he had been looking at such "content" either! I quickly pointed the browser back at some of the options he could explore to enable content filtering, took my money and got the strawberry float out of there! :lol:
