The way this heatwave is being reported as a record "we've" nearly broken like it's some kind of national achievement is really strawberry floating weird.
Went out to sit in the garden for a but but it was just under 30 degrees so I strawberry floated off back inside. Thunderstorm predicted here this evening so the humidity should be fun

Where is your national pride?
I for one will celebrate this achievement and will work towards getting us to break the record that Venus has held for so long.
It’s getting the same level of coverage in other European countries. From a French newspaper (translated):
We announced it for several days: the absolute record of maximum temperature in Paris-Montsouris has just been beaten: we recorded 40.6 ° C at 13h36 and the temperature continues to increase.
People just love weather stories and records. Combine the two and it’s VERY EXCITING, ISN'T IT.
I heard a woman here say the other day somethibg along the lines of "they say in 20 years itll be as hot as europe in the uk all the time! I wont have to retire to Spain then!!"

That's a very different tone to something like this:
The sky darkened for half an hour but we haven't had any rain and now it's brightening up again. Currently 35c / 95f. Good old south-east London!
.
Was in the supermarket and a worker there was loudly exclaiming "They're making us work in this heat!". But... the store was air-conditioned and wonderfully cool .

She’s going to be disappointed when she finds out the part of Europe they were referring to was northern Norway.

I'll be looking back enjoying the cold and wondering how I survived the summer (if I do survive that is).
No heaters on at work today but one of the Aircon units broke. It was bearable at work but I would have preferred it to be colder.
could get some thunderstorms again today, there is a big storm cell up north by Newcastle and lots around south london and Kent with more coming up from the english channel https://www.netweather.tv/live-weather/radar
