Out of interest, this who aren't enjoying it, do you have a garden/access to outside space? Because when we lived in the first floor flat it would have been horrible, but now we can sit out I love it.

I've been sat outside in someone else's back garden for hours. It's hideous, I just feel like I need to go inside, but it'll seem really odd if I do that :lol:

I have a large front and back garden but I'm not venturing out there as the sun is out there

Yes, I have a garden. No, I'm not going to sit in it. Anything above, oh, 12-15 degrees is uncomfortable for me. I find temperatures like today and the heatwave last year unbearable. I hate the attitude (not directed at anyone here but I get it a lot at work) of "stop whinging, go outside and enjoy it". If I could I would. Temperature like this tend to have the following affects on me (in no particular order of severity):

My depression and anxiety get a lot worse. I have to start taking anxiety tablets on top of my anti-depressants.
When I'm not feeling low I'm very quick to lose my temper (which isn't like me) and lash out. I spoke to the doctor about it last year and he thinks I suffer from summer SAD (yes it's a thing)
I can't sleep which feeds into my anxiety, depression and short temper. Last year was brutal, for weeks I was barely functioning on 2 maybe 3 hours of very broken sleep
My complexion gets worse. I'm 42, I get breakouts during the summer
I hate feeling sweaty all the damn time
At it's worst the heat can actually make me so ill I throw up. Or get diarrhoea. And yes, I stay hydrated

I get that people enjoy this weather and I try not to rain on peoples parades but the heat has real, tangible negative effects on my health. The thing is, I love sunny days. Sunny days in spring, autumn and winter are the best. I just can't bear the heat. At a push I can maybe go for summer walks in the woods or by the sea if there is a nice breeze. I like the theory of summer but the practicalities of it just make it time to endure until it gets cooler. Which is a shame. I'd love to go to Japan in the summer for various festivals but I know the weather would literally* kill me

I'm completely different again in winter. I know it's probably a minority here but the cold puts me in such a better mood. I can go places and do things. I do most of my hiking in the winter (some in the autumn and spring too) Throw in weeks of snow (rare in this country) and I'm in my element.

*not actually literally

I'm on lifeguard duty. Much better now.

I do not understand the thought process behind anyone who enjoys this sort of weather. It's disgusting.

Outrunner i wouldnt enjoy summer if i got the same reaction to the heat either!

I count myself as lucky: I don't have a garden, but in my 11th-storey flat the breeze is magnified to a level that's keeping me quite cool.

Still though, I went for a walk outside earlier like a fool and it felt like walking into a sauna. You could physically feel the heat hitting you.

While nowhere near on the same scale, pollen allergies can make summer pretty unpleasant too, especially when i was a teenager having to do exams while sneezing and with a constantly streaming nose and itchy eyes; all of which are caused by contact with the outside air during this time of year. The problem with it is that the "stop whinging and go outside" crowd are generally people who don't have and will never have said allergies so see them as some sort of personality flaw or just can't comprehend the idea that someone doesn't want to stand outside all day getting dehydrated drinking diuretics like lager (as in the drink) and getting skin cancer by burning to a crisp.

Maybe its my autismo brain, but i don't understand how just "being outside" is the end goal.

No, I have a Garden but it's cooler in my house than in the shaded part of the garden. The reason I don't like it is because I don't enjoy feeling like a half melted rowntrees fruit pastille ice lolly all day.

Sat outside now, phone is currently saying it’s around 29C and it feels rather nice with a small breeze and a can of chilled cider

probably won’t be spending too long out in it mind but for the time being I’m liking it!

Was in Greenwich today. Incredible heat. Walked through through the tunnel under the Thames... lovely and cool :datass:

Saw doofuses cycling through the tunnel even though it says no cycling, and even though there were signs clearly advising that the lift wasn't working at the other side... stairs only.

Then carried a lady's bike (the heavy Boris-bike type) up the stairs for her :fp:

. Bloody knackered. She just cycled off. Sat down and had a drink to recover.

No thankyou or anything? The moral of the story is that people thick enough to ignore important/useful signage are also rude and self-centred enough to avoid basic gratitude/manners.

I don't drink and have hayfever but I still adore this weather. Being outside is just nice!

But I appreciate that others don't like it and would never be part of the "stop whining" crowd because that's just being a twonk.
