Yeah, the force has landed, Robbo. Apparently gonna reach 32c here in the south east and the sweating is already very real.

33. I'm kind of okay with that? It's summer, it's meant to be warm: I'm more worried (climate change etc.) when it isn't. So long as it doesn't exceed 35 then that's kind of what summer's supposed to do. At the same time I'm not looking forward to going outside at all.

In the Bahamas, maybe... but not in the UK :-) . You made me wonder what the summer temperatures have been like and the Met Office has these records for the period 1961 to 2010 in Greenwich Park, the weather station nearest to me here in the south east.

For the period 1961 to 2000, the average maximum temperature for July and August was around 21c. From 2000 to 2010, that rose to around 23c.

Temperatures that we've seen since - often reaching around 30c during past summers, albeit that isn't the average maximum - are extraordinarily high in comparison.

A reasonable analysis of this situation is that the UK is melting and might not be be here in five years' time.

I'm actually loving this weather but it's a bit worrying.

It's hot today, which means my house has been filled with bonfire smoke, barbecue smoke, and the noise of endless screaming brats/power tools.

The only thing not making a noise here today is stool bloke, and that's because he's still on holiday.

The temperature in the UK isn't supposed to be that high. Climate Change has caused this and it's going to lead to many deaths in the years to come especially amongst the elderly and the very young. Our houses, our buildings and our transport system is not built to support that kind of heat and you can even tell by the way the Tube is in London that it's already unbearable, the trains are like ovens and I've seen multiple people pass out this year already.

This is not a healthy temperature for the UK.

Pockets of hot temperatures have always happened in the UK to be fair. They're getting a bit hotter when they do come around but the fact that they happen is not new.

If it becomes a very common occurrence then we'll see air con and other measures becoming more prevalent across the country.

Stand corrected Qikz and Jenuall.

Still. Would have had a very nice walk through London today, had I not blundered into the NH Carnival.

Yeah, we used to regularly get 30c+ during 90's summers so it's not really anything that new.

The extreme day we had this year though, was a pretty rare event, as the temperature record which was broken had stood for 16 years (the day that happened, i was at Exeter Odeon watching Curse of the Black Pearl), and only a few times over the decades has it crept up towards 100F.
