This was really good. I'm interested, although sort of don't just want to see terminator.

I've not seen the film, but doesn't Anthony Hopkins' character say the dad was previously part of a horror park?

Are those even spoilers about the film? Also I was sure Crichton wrote Westworld as a film(screenplay) I am sure it was not a book before the film.

Anyhow great first episode, really like what they setup, hope it all goes as well

What was particularly striking about it was how self-contained it felt. Like, they could never show another episode of it and I'd still feel pretty satisfied. Ed Harris's thread was the only one that didn't have enough exposition to make for a neat short story.

Yep originally written by Michael Crichton in the 70's prior to Jurassic Park being written and then turned into a film. The original film is really good, due to my grandad being huge into westerns i ended up seeing the original film when i was about 10 years old. This film was one of the major ones that got me hooked on sci fi and reading Michael Crichton books.

I thought he'd wrote the screenplay for the film first then released the novel after based on the screenplay?

And just noticed Zartans post :slol: :fp:

Great first episode. Loved the set up. Great cast and got genuine chills when the farmer got Shakespearean on Hopkins. Really looking forward to this - having loved the film years ago. That first episode has set things up beautifully.
Love Anthony Hopkins when he does stuff like this. The scene with him chatting to an old host was great.

Mintball.

Watched the first ep this morning, was pretty damn good. That Paint It Black cover especially, goddamn that made the scene that much more awesome.

Yeah pretty much, the book was basically the screenplay with a few extra bits and pieces that were not kept in the final film.

I also loved episode 1. It seems to have a lot of different aspects to cover so should have a bit of depth to it. Hope they can strike the balance so you don't get filler episodes. I take it that's its a 10-12 ep series?

Very enjoyable.

The first few minutes almost put me off but I'm glad I stuck with it as the rest was great.

Not sure about the massive warehouse full of decommissioned 'hosts', surely they'd just destroy or recycle them instead

I guess the issue is they aren't quite machines and aren't "real" as such so there is probably an ethical thing behind it.

There's also the fact that they have recommissioned characters before (I'm sure they said that at one point). Plus older ones might have some financial or historical value to the company.

I'm definitely feeling that because of the setting and everything that we could be looking at two different timelines here. Some seem to think that the guy who picked the white hat in the most recent episode is actually the 'man in black', but that section is in the past. I could see something like that being revealed (Nolan has been involved in projects like The Prestige and Interstellar after all) - but then on the other hand, would the hosts be that advanced if that was 30 years previous?
