What can 2K realistically do with Bioshock 4?

Anything to do with games at all.

PostWhat can 2K realistically do with Bioshock 4?

Rapture started to get a bit stale by the end of 2, yet a return would be most welcome for me in a new game. Colombia was very compelling and beautiful and set the idea that there can be multiple cities in the stars.

I'm struggling to think how the series can be reinvented, or freshened up.

The one idea I had is somehow having the universe of Colombia merge with that of Rapture. Say, Colombia has crashed out of the sky over Rapture, so you can explore both cities at the bottom of the ocean, and introduce some underwater gameplay for the sections in a sunken Colombia.

A city in space would not feel right at all for this series, I feel!

Thoughts? Theories?

You're struggling to think of a direction because Infinite and Buried at Sea fully concluded the underlying story. There's no obvious new direction because it's all wrapped up.

I'm not really sure it's a good idea commercially either. While I enjoyed the game (and even the story) a lot, I don't feel like Infinite is particurlarly well rememebered.

Was anybody really waiting for a new Bioshock game? Especially when a lot of the main criticsms of the series were over gameplay mechanics and it was the story and setting people enjoyed, both of which have been done now.

I would not be surprised if they just returned to Rapture though. They could easily do that with a prequel.

Infest it with live service shite and turn it into a numbers-based shooter like the most recent Wolfenstein (I know, not a 2k game, but still)?

Would you kindly buy some virtual currency?

Something new. That's what they should do, but probably won't.

But then why bother calling it Bioshock I guess?

Despite being a huge System Shock 2 fanboy and absolutely getting wrapped up in the excitement for the original Bioshock I just have no real interest in seeing the series return at this point. Each entry in the series, whilst still offering something of interest (although Infinite really stretches that!), failed in fundamental ways to live up to the depth and quality of its forebears and I just have little excitement in seeing them no doubt trot out something else that repeats the same beats and wears the blueprint even thinner than before.

1 was perfect, 2 was bloody amazing, 3 was a huge step back with very limited powers and loads of guns that all do the same thing. I'd be happy with a remake of 1 and 2.

I'd like 4 to be a prequel to 1.

Wish my image sig would work

Improve the gameplay. It was always a bit mediocre.

Personally, I'm not really interested in a fourth Bioshock but perhaps they could play with some kind of time travel/dimension hopping mechanics to add some puzzling into the gameplay? I know Infinite had Elizabeth pulling ammo and things through rifts in time and space but I don't remember it ever being a big mechanic, more of a simple McGuffin.

I just replayed Bioshock and it's still excellent but most of that excellence comes from the atmosphere of just walking the halls of Rapture. If I can find the time I'd like to replay 2, Minerva's Den and Infinite but 2K will need to do something really interesting for me to buy into a fourth.

They should remove combat entirely

My first thought was some abandoned space station and double down on the horror but it probably wouldn't be as good as Alien Isolation.

A proper fallout new vegas style rpg is the only way I can see it working.

We're getting an actual new System Shock any way so I think this needs to find its own direction.

For me I would want to see them bring back some complexity into the game - the trajectory from System Shock 2 > Bioshock > Infinite has been one of gradual dumbing down and stripping out of things that made it genuinely interesting, both in terms of narrative and game play.

Yes! Warren Spector of Deus Ex and System Shock 1 (along with a bunch of other stuff) is leading it. They've released a few teasers but very little detail exists.

The developer Otherside Entertainment has only done one other game which was Underworld Ascendant, an attempt to revive a classic Looking Glass Studios (who did the first System Shock and co-developed Shock 2 with Irrational) franchise but it was a bit of a let down so currently people are being cautious in their expectations around Shock 3.

I'd like the game to have a time traveling mechanic like that fun level in Titainfall 2, jump between the past and present and build a story around exploring the past to see how it effects the present, maybe include some player choice elements to drastically change the future.

All I want/wanted from BioShock was a murder mystery game set in pre-fall Rapture

I'd love a substantial reboot of the original game, plot intact but with dual guns/plasmids like Bioshock 2. Redesign all the areas you visit and add whole new areas that you didn't get to in 1. Rapture, like City 17, Termina field, Hyrule and Halo CE's original Halo are all major game spaces that amaze me even to this day so I'd love a chance to go back to Rapture, Halo Infinite seems to be doing the same albeit a replica Halo.
