As 2018 is drawing to a close we are also approaching the end of the second year of Nintendo Switch. 2018 has probably not quite hit the heights of 2017 due to the lack of big games but it has been solid, especially due to the 'Nindie' scene taking off.

We do know some of the games that are in development that should be coming next year, including

Core Pokémon RPG
Animal Crossing
New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe
Luigi's Mansion 3
Metroid Prime 4
Bayonetta 3

We also have the rumour than a new model of Switch might be coming in 2019. So, to all the current/future Switch GRcaders, what do you want to see from Switch in 2019? These are mine picks

MORE FEATURES FOR THE SWITCH O/S
I love how snappy the UI is but it's sorely lacking in features, I want folders, themes and an internet browser at the very least. I would absolutely love a new, Miiverse like service as well but I doubt we will ever see that The eshop could do with an improved layout as well

MORE BIG 3RD PARTY GAMES WITH CROSS PLATFORM SUPPORT
We know Doom Eternal is coming to Switch next year but we will hopefully see a big push from third parties. Something like Overwatch coming to Switch with Cross Platform play would be huge!

SNES/GB/GBC/GBA GAMES
Adding these systems to the Netflix style service they have for NES games at the moment would be fantastic!

GC/WII HD REMASTERS
I know this will probably go down like a lead balloon with many of you but The GC and Wii have so many quality titles on them that are dying to get re-released with HD upgrades. Having a new label dedicated for HD remasters (Like PS3's HD Classics label) would be great, if we can get a new F-Zero, a HD remastered F-Zero GX with online support would be just as welcome.

FLESH OUT THE ONLINE SUBSCRIPTION
You have got people paying in now, sort out the features and get the basically functionality in, I want to be able to message friends and send game invites

CONTINUE PUSHING THE INDIE SUPPORT
Switch is my main console for indie games now, I want them to continue to push for more titles to come to Switch like Donut County and What The Golf!

Nintendo's 2019 first party line up for Switch already looks brilliant and while some games (Metroid and Bayonetta) will probably be 2020 releases, there should be a few unannounced stuff too.

For me I'd like to see a continued strong support from Third Parties, apps and new OS features for Switch as well as a E-shop redesigned.

Many of my thoughts about Switch tie up with your post, Milner. The key areas that I'd like to see improved are:

OS features
Quite an oddity; this has been both good and yet frustrating. The system software runs very smoothly and quickly... I like it! But the lack of basic features and any kind of development has, for me, been disappointing. Why can't friends message each other? Why is there no built-in game chat functionality? Why is the eShop so basic? How can the only themes still be "black or white" after nearly two years?!? It's as if the features available on the 3DS and Wii U never existed. I understand the desire for speed and slickness... but the console just doesn't - in my opinion - feel very "Nintendo-y" at all.

Virtual Console
It should be there... but it now looks like it never will be. I would love to play N64 - and even Game Boy! - games on the portable system but Nintendo clearly seems to be shying away from this. Once again, it's quite baffling when it was incorporated into the Wii, Wii U and 3DS consoles

Online
The best that can be said is that it's (relatively) cheap. It works okay (bar no talking or contact even with your friends)... but, then it again, it worked okay for over eighteen months before they started charging for it. I am thinking that they must know it is a pretty weak offering.

Now all that sounds pretty grumpy. But... the Switch is a neat console that has some excellent games! The catalogue is wide and varied... even though I feel that Nintendo itself could (should?) have put out more high-quality stuff. 2017 was superb for games whilst I reckon that 2018 has been slightly underwhelming. I am not against ports (I still want to see Xenoblade Chronicles X, the Mario Galaxies... even Wind Waker and Skyward!) but Nintendo has used them in place of new, original titles and the pricing hasn't really been attractive considering the minimal improvements shown. I know that they are putting out three "big names" for Christmas in terms of Mario Party, Pokemon and Smash and it's perhaps a little harsh to gripe in that instance; but those titles just don't really appeal to me personally.

I really like the system but it feels like Nintendo needs to push on quicker and raise the quality bar a little more.

I just want more New Nintendo games. I don't care about indie games on it due to not buying them as I get them on my PC, 3rd Party games are the same, bar exclusives that I have an interest in. strawberry float remasters. I agree with the online needing to be better.

New form factors - Pro and pocket versions

New retro games - N64, GC and Wii games added to their download service

Apps - Switch has a lovely big screen, how about letting us watch Amazon, Netflix and YouTube on it?

A price cut? I can't really justify £300+ just to play Official GRcade Game of the Decade All Decades, Breath of the Wild.

I think having Nintendo Online go from strength to strength is one of the more crucial aspects for 2019, particularly when it comes to third-party apps. Animal Crossing will be their next big online title that I hope, on top of being a worthy successor to New Leaf, won't be derailed by oddball decisions or micro-transactions - I want it to be able to meet and, in some ways, exceed fans desires.

Also wouldn't mind if they added themes and other general improvements to the OS early in the year.

I've said it before, and now I'm saying it again. Move the all software button to the immediate left as a permanent fixture, showing only the three most recent games after it. Inside that all software button is everything sorted A-Z with options to sort them how you'd like.

A (proper) new entry in one of the following Nintendo series...

F Zero
Excitebike
Wave Race
Paper Mario
Chibi-Robo!

Failing that a significant number of GC classic titles being made available.

Metroid Prime 3
Luigi's Mansion 3
Yoshi's Crafted World

More OS features. A folder system would be great, I also sorely want the ability to back up my save files without having to pay for an online service that I won't use.

I also want to know what Retro Studios are up to.

F-Zero Switch being announced would be incredible and it's about time.

Just get rid off the Switch Online app and let me use voice chat through the jack you built into the damn thing. Epic can make Fortnite work with it, so why can't Nintendo?

That's literally all I'm asking for. Give me that, and I'll give you my £20 a year.

New games wise (from what we know about) I'm actually pretty content if the only 3 (maybe 4) games I'll buy are Animal Crossing, new mainline Pokemon, Metroid Prime 4 and Town, as that did look interesting from the few seconds we saw of it in the direct. 3rd party games I take on a wait and see approach, after all I buy Nintendo consoles for the Nintendo games so I see 3rd party support as a nice addition to my library, the Switch has been decent regarding this area so far so I'm hopeful it'll continue.

I would love to see more consoles being added to the online subscription to make it more worthwhile, it'd be great to have at least SNES and N64 games on there. GameCube too if they don't remaster some of the GC games crying out for a remaster (Paper Mario Thousand Year Door to name one). I don't doubt the online is solid value for people who play a lot online but I normally stick to single player and only venture online every now and then, if they had a N64 app on there like the NES one I'd have bought a year subscription the moment it was announced.

As far as the Switch's OS goes all I'd like to see added is the option to save copies of save data on the SD card and an internet browser, I've got a Fire Stick to watch Netflix etc on already but an in built browser wouldn't go amiss as its immediately on hand if you need to look something about a game up while playing. Another thing I'd like to have the option of is messaging friends.

If Animal Crossing, Luigi’s Mansion 3, Metroid Prime 4, Yoshi and Fire Emblem all release next year I’ll be more than happy to be honest.

Some other things I’d love to see though:
> MK8 DLC. They’ve hinted about doing more DLC recently and this has sold 10m. 2 rounds of DLC, 4 cups and some extra characters like the Wii U DLC would be awesome.
> Pikmin 4 and a Retro project. Neither have to be released, I’d just like confirmation that they’re on the way.
> Smash DLC to be completed earlier than Feb 2020 and for them to announce a second Fighter’s Pass.
>Xenoblade X port. Missed this on the Wii U and after XC2 am keen to play it. Hopefully Monster are working on it after they did the 3DS port.
>A new F-Zero is always wanted too but I’ve given up on that. F-Zero GX HD with online would more than do though.

Until it happens, my number one will always be a new F Zero. Either brand new, or if not then a HD remake of GX.

I’m really keen to see Metroid as well.

I’d love to see what Retro has been working on.

I’d also love them to do a totally new game series that surprises us.

I looked into picking up a Wii U 32gb so as I could have another crack at BotW. The pricing by scalpers for this widely available console takes the piss. £106 for 'acceptable' condition (read marked and scratched to gooseberry fool with no box) to 'good' but generally without a box and anywhere between £130-£350 with no guarantee of the condition.

May as well buy a Switch new.

Didn't even realise BotW was on the WiiU, but I've even less desire to buy one of those.

Then you have BotW pricing floating around £35-50 mark on top of that.

I used to own it, but my Wii U decided to randomly reformat the memory of the external HD I had plugged into it. Binned the console and games off to CEX in the end.

My kids were enquiring about Switch last year, but it's just too expensive for what it is so I said 'maybe' knowing it would probably be a five minute wonder for them. Unsurprisingly they've not mentioned it since and have not asked for one for Christmas.

So, for 2019 I'd like to see Nintendo drop the price by £100.

Plus £60 for a controller to make it playable.

It's daylight robbery how much the Switch costs, when it's lacking so much basic functionality.

Same thing I've wanted from Nintendo consoles since the Cube... more single player adventures. To me, my favourite Nintendo memories are being engrossed in Mario 64, Ocarina of Time, Paper Mario and Metroid Prime. They still do experiences like this, and 2017 was a fantastic start for the Switch with Odyssey and Breath of the Wild, but Nintendo upper management seem to talk about huge single player games now with an upturned nose, calling people who like the games antisocial. I have zero interest in Mario Kart, Smash Bros, and surprisingly to say, even Splatoon. Very eager to play Fire Emblem, Metroid and Luigi's Mansion 3, along with the reveal of the mainline Pokemon game.
