Having been nearly hit by cyclists running through red lights multiple times I'd have no objections to cyclists having to get license plates really.

I am fine with filtering if done safely. But really you should only be overtaking on the left if the vehicle in front is turning right or you are turning left.

In totally stopped traffic, fine go up the left if you need to. Else do lane splitting.

How are you going to fit a number plate to a bike?

And should they also get insurance, pay “road” tax and put their bike in for an MOT every year?

TBH with more and more E-bikes capable of doing 30 mph plus I feel a CBT should be mandatory and users should have a drivers license to purchase them.

Just to be clear, this is just your opinion right? The Highway code makes it clear that bikes filtering on the left of stationary or slow moving traffic is acceptable regardless of whether the bike intends to turn left or the vehicles they are passing are turning right.

If something bad happens here the car is the one in the wrong - it is their responsibility to ensure it is safe to proceed. Highway Code Rule 160 states:
Once moving you should ... be aware of other road users, especially cycles and motorcycles who may be filtering through the traffic. These are more difficult to see than larger vehicles and their riders are particularly vulnerable…

Same here, I very rarely filter unless it is very clear that nothing could go wrong as it's just not worth the risk. But the fact remains that it should be fine to do in acceptable conditions, if people use the roads appropriately.

The way I see it, if you’re on the road you should adhere to the rules of said road, makes no difference to me if you’re in a car or on a motorbike or bike or whatever. It goes for filtering, keeping eyes on your surroundings and so on.

Well more and more cyclist have insurance, it comes with British cycling membership and it's not a bad thing to keep your bike in good condition.
Have to agree with laga the amount of Muppets (this is in London) that jump lights and zebra crossings is mental.

One thing I did find out recently is that cyclists don't have a speed limit unless the local authority has approved one.

Insurance wouldn't be a bad idea for some of them really since bikes can do a lot of damage, but I'm not saying it should be mandatory.
Kind of hard to tax them though seeing as how tax is for emissions, so unless they're going to start charging everyone a breathing tax... (let's not give Boris ideas). Cyclosts pay for the roads already like everyone else through general taxation.

Unfortunately though, whilst they're a minority, there are enough cyclists who take the piss that it's a noticeable issue and I'd have zero objection to them having a bit of accountability/traceability from being licensed in some manner.

I'm not going to be demanding it happens, but I'm not going to complain if it did happen.

Accountability and traceability does strawberry float all to stop drivers from racing down 20mph roads or use their phones at the wheel.

They can be tracked and prosecuted though.

Oh yeah, cyclists are angels who do nothing wrong, ever, and always follow the laws of the road to the letter. Those evil car drivers, on the other hand...

There's a fixed percentage of arseholes across everything in life, its just that there are far fewer cyclists than car drivers and so their numbers are significantly lower.

cyclists are not the problem, Drivers are not the problem.

People are just arseholes, and as such are the problem.

So stop all this bickering you lot or I am turning this car around.
