hilarious at how angry and offended some people get when you suggest that a ton of metal going at up to 70mph is somehow more dangerous than a man/woman on a cycle
sad

I mean, that’s not at all what you said.

Of course cars can be more dangerous, but that doesn’t mean cyclists can’t put others by not following the rules of the road.

just read this and come back to me:
https://fullfact.org/health/cyclist-deaths/

car drivers are poorly educated/skilled and treated leniently for the danger they actually pose
cyclists are vulnerable road users who are not protected enough
trying to demonise cyclists is like people who demonise immigrants for all the UKs ills - misguided.

Can you not see that that is just as stupid as the motorists that blame cyclists for everything?

There are gooseberry fool cyclists, there are gooseberry fool drivers. There are good cyclists and there are good drivers.

I’ve been sticking up for cyclists in this thread.

But I’ll complain about a gooseberry fool cyclist if a gooseberry fool cyclist pisses me off. Because road death stats don’t absolve a banana split riding on the pavement who nearly knocks me over.

fine - i just think its pretty odd to be complaining about something that is really rare and not particularly threatening.
i think we've got used to having cars everywhere and its normalised how dangerous they are. unless someone in a car does something absolutely outrageous we just toot the horn and go about our day, but complain about a cyclist weaving about a bit.

things like this

 what utter nonsense. Just today followed a cyclist all over the road who decided to mount the pavement at a red light.

jesus christ think of the damage they could have done :dread:

If a kid, or even an adult, was on the pavement and was hit by the bike? Quite a lot of damage could be done.

I’m fine with cyclists existing and I agree they are the ones in danger on the roads.

But I don’t think all cyclists are blameless. And the banana splits on the pavements need to strawberry float off.

according to this express article trying to argue cyclists are a terrible danger, 3 people were hit and died in 2016 due to a collision with a cyclist.
its a non-issue

This doesn't really help make your ridiculous statement any more credible. We can complain about gooseberry fool cyclists, just like we can complain about gooseberry fool drivers. This isn't hard to grasp.

Firstly a cyclist all over the road means overtaking is even more challenging. Secondly, this particular set of traffic lights is on a humped bridge so you cannot see if anyone is walking over it. Thirdly you can't be on the road then on the pavement as it suits. Fourthly it was never about what is more dangerous, if you're going to suggest that cars are more inherently dangerous because of how much they weigh and the speed the move this could arguably be more of a reason why sharing a space with a slow moving, light form of transport on which the user is totally exposed is not a good idea.

You’re using a link from the Express? :dread:

And it’s not a non-issue. Just having to jump out of the way of a cyclist makes it an issue. Being hit by one makes it an issue. Being seriously injured by one makes it an issue. One single death would make it an issue.

How can you possibly defend pavement cycling as a “non-issue” and then dare to try and paint the other side as being like Brexit supporters?

You can come up with statistics to prove anything Kent, forfty percent of people know that.

Joking aside, the stats on vehicle collisions caused by cyclists or motorcyclists would be interesting to me, because I don’t think the majority of complaints about cyclists are about them potentially crashing, but about riding in such a way as to potentially cause a crash between one or more cars.

With that said, I generally fall in the group of defending cyclists - I agree that the onus is on motorists to treat cyclists with respect, but it does go both ways. I’ve been startled by cyclists pulling out of side streets with no warning and without looking where they’re going on a number of occasions For example - that can’t be safe.
