The PSP was excellent and criminally overlooked.

The weapon degradation never actually bothered me, but the rain? Explain yourself. :capnscotty:

When exploring/traversing terrain the impact on climbing encourages the player to try different approaches, which almost always exist. In combat, the nullification of bomb arrows and suppressing of fire similarly forces different approaches to encounters, with shock attacks increased in effectiveness - using puddles that form in the rain to effectively take out groups of enemies is a great feeling. In towns and villages, watching the NPCs react to the rain by running for cover makes the world feel much more alive. Plus - lightning storms.

What about when you've spent ages climbing and there is no other route or you're in the middle of a quest that you can't continue because of the the rain? You could convince me on the weapon degradation but not the rain.

This is where OR’s argument falls down for me. It’s just frustrating at that point and there’s nothing satisfying about starting your ascent again and going a different route or just waiting it out.

Because there almost always is another route to where you're trying to get. The only time I can think there isn't is if you're trying to climb one of those big pillars - which just have chests on top of them if anything so w/e. Plus with full climbing gear and high stamina rain is less of a problem for climbing anyway, you just have to learn the timing to jump before you slip - so if anything, it makes it more interesting.

The only quest I can think of that is stopped by the rain is the lighting of the torches up to the lab. That's literally it, right?

Some of the best indie games this generation could run on a SNES, Mega Drive, Saturn, PS1 or N64. Lets save the planet and start developing for old systems again. Who needs a PS5? NOBODY! Viva la revolución!

But that's not great if you just spent a reasonable amount of time climbing something, it is literally nothing but a barrier on your progress.

Probably not but that was strawberry floating annoying.

A lot of good takes in the post, but unfortunately I gotta disagree with you on the Skyward Sword one. Imo it's probably on the lower half of the series though I should probs replay it at some point. Phantom Hourglass is actually really strawberry floating good.

As for a positive controversial opinion, the motion controls in Skyward Sword were really good, and made combat one of the best of any Zelda games.

This.

Also Mass Effect 3 and Dead Space 3 are decent games.

Alundra on the PS1 and Story of Thor and Soleil on the Mega Drive are all miles better than any 2D Zelda title.

Mobile gaming is a legitimate part of the industry. From Florence to Horizon Chase, there are loads of really good games for phones.

The Dreamcast is the greatest games console ever created. Sega at their most mental and creative were better than anything on rival platforms.

Nintendo's best ever console was the Wii. The retro catalog was impeccable, it had Zelda, Mario and Metroid within the first year of launch and the Wii remote was a genius control method. It had a steady drip of obscure titles for years like Fragile Dreams and then went out with a bang when Skyward Sword, The Last Story and Xenoblade all came out. I adore the Switch but Nintendo dropped the ball on the joycon analog sticks.
