The weapon degradation never actually bothered me, but the rain? Explain yourself.
When exploring/traversing terrain the impact on climbing encourages the player to try different approaches, which almost always exist. In combat, the nullification of bomb arrows and suppressing of fire similarly forces different approaches to encounters, with shock attacks increased in effectiveness - using puddles that form in the rain to effectively take out groups of enemies is a great feeling. In towns and villages, watching the NPCs react to the rain by running for cover makes the world feel much more alive. Plus - lightning storms.
What about when you've spent ages climbing and there is no other route or you're in the middle of a quest that you can't continue because of the the rain? You could convince me on the weapon degradation but not the rain.
This is where OR’s argument falls down for me. It’s just frustrating at that point and there’s nothing satisfying about starting your ascent again and going a different route or just waiting it out.
Because there almost always
is another route to where you're trying to get. The only time I can think there isn't is if you're trying to climb one of those big pillars - which just have chests on top of them if anything so w/e. Plus with full climbing gear and high stamina rain is less of a problem for climbing anyway, you just have to learn the timing to jump before you slip - so if anything, it makes it more interesting.
The only quest I can think of that is stopped by the rain is the lighting of the torches up to the lab. That's literally it, right?
