PostWhat is your oldest game save?

Playing some Phantasy Star Online earlier and whilst wishing I still had my old character from 2003 it got me wondering what my oldest game save actually is.

And thus, what is yours?

I imagine many people will still have some old PS1 memory card with all the FFVII materia or Gameboy cart with an ancient Pokémon save file on but I tend not to keep hold of older consoles that much.

Thankfully I have cloud backup to keep things alive and it turned out that my oldest save file is in fact from Tiny Wings on the iPhone that I started back in 2012 which isn't terribly exciting.

I'd say Breath of Fire 2 on GBA is probably the one I still have, I would have said Windwaker or Paper Mario TYD but I have no clue whether my brother still has the memory cards to our old gamecube. Pretty sure he restarted my pokemon blue save file too.

My brother used to steal my games and sell them when he was a teenager to get money for beer so half of my old games are probably with other people now.

It's probably pokemon blue if the save is still there (can't remember if that relies on an internal battery like gold and silver?)

That or an N64 cart

Up in my loft I have my old Commodore 64 systems and games. I haven't used them for nearly twenty-five years but I know that I have cassettes with game saves on; and some of them will go back to the mid-80s. I am fearful that they may not work any more but I will check them one day.

I haven't hoarded like I wish I had, the oldest original games I have in my collection is my DS collection. So to that end probably my New Super Mario Bros save.

There might be saves older than that at my Mum's house. I think my original Xbox is there somewhere but from what I've read it's probably wrecked from a leaky clock capacitor anyway.

Wow, that would be a crippling wave of nostalgia right there! Imagine the time capsule you might dig up.

I fired up my old Dreamcast a couple of years back to play some Powerstone  and was pleased to see i still have some old Code Veronica saves.

Sadly, most of my old SNES CR2032 batteries have died, and i have installed new ones on most of the others, so i probably dont have any REALLY old save games hanging around.

I do have one of those multipage translucent 3rd party PS1 memory cards in a draw. They were tempremental when they were new though, so i dont have high hopes there. I should check my offical PS1 memory card also.

I've got a Fighting Fantasy book - Citadel of Chaos - that will still have my pencilled-in game progress. So that's about 36 years old.

If my GameCube memory cards still work I imagine it must be something like Luigi's Mansion from around 2002.

It would have been Destruction Derby (black roof!) but the memory card doesn't work now. If any of them actually are operational (I have 5), it would be something from the PS1 era.

Luigi's Mansion.

Check out my YouTube channel!
One man should not have this much power in this game. Luckily I'm not an ordinary man.

Nearly all of mine had died by about 2015. Maybe it was the way I was storing them etc, but expect the worst.

Probably have a SNES F-Zero save somewhere, but the one I do know that exists is my Ocarina of Time original playthrough.

I've got a save tape with Mafia Contract and Marie Celeste on from 1985. Both by Atlantis Software.
£2 each and I still copied them.

For reference, £2 in 1985 would get you
2 sausages
Chicken and mushroom pie
2 portions of chips.
15p change.

I know for sure that my Pokémon red save is still active because I was showing it to my son the other day! (He was not impressed at my lack of progress, "only 2 gym badges!?!" )

I've still got an original PS1 memory card which should have saves from the likes of FFVII and Resi 1 on it as well but I've no idea if that's actually still functioning as I've not tried it for 5+ years now

This is a good answer. One thing I do have is my old character sheets from the 1990's in Heroquest.
