4.85. I use it mostly for trips to the local airport (travelling with a heavy case on public transport is a bad vibe) or when I’m on holiday (almost always in America, where they don’t have public transport). I don’t really care for my rating but I always try to match the mood of the driver - if they’re chatty, I’m chatty, if they want to drive quiet, I’ll be quiet, etc.

I've only ever been in an Uber when someone else has made the booking. I'm off the uber grid

I suspect many people who use Uber are adults who own a car but are sometimes too drunk to drive or need to get to an airport or other reasons where you don't want to take your car.

Weird thing to have a superiority complex about but here we are.

My (adult, car owning) score is 4.78 and like everyone else I use it infrequently enough to know exactly when my score dropped from 5. We had to make a complaint after our driver swerved into oncoming traffic for no reason and nearly got into a head-on crash. I was strawberry floating livid.

I'm like Ob in that my Ubering happens almost exclusively while smashed, and almost exclusively with a group of people all heading back to the same rough area so I'm honestly amazed it's still as high as it is.

I very rarely get taxi's in general.

I usually either walk home after a night out (I like walking so even in times when I've lived a good few miles from the city centre this doesn't bother me) or I've taken my "pub bike" with me and use that to get home (I think that being "drunk behind the handlebars" is technically an offence but I figure the risk level is pretty strawberry floating low!)

That and the fact that I've usually lived in places with decent public transport links means that getting a taxi is generally not the default option.

I can't imagine how much extra cash some people must be dropping on a night out if they're getting a taxi everywhere! :dread:

Depends if you're sharing or not really. As soon as you have a few people sharing the cost, it really doesn't add up to that much.

If you're by yourself though it racks up quickly.

We also like to walk as much as possible when going out. We have a pub at the bottom of the road which is no more than a 5 minute walk each way, so that's always a walk. If we're going somehwere local for curry, we'll walk the way over (maybe an hour or so) and then taxi back. Last return trip from there was less than £3, I don't know how they make any money

It costs us like £20 to get a taxi to anywhere now

Where I used to live which was halfway closer to town you could get a taxi into town for about £12, so if six of us were going it'd be £2 each which was pretty comparable to the bus but obviously a bit easier. I still preferred the bus though because I had a bus pass. A couple of years ago the buses started running all through the night so I rarely need to get a taxi any more.

Sharing? :dread:

But yeah that's a good point. Last time I took a taxi back from the centre of Cardiff it was about £15 so divided by a few people then it's not that bad. But that was over a decade ago so it's probably gone up a bit in price now!

Thankfully I live in a gooseberry fool area so a taxi home from town is less than a tenner.

Victor Mildew wrote:I have never used one. Taxis here are so absurdly cheap that there's no need to (as I understand the convenience is cost related).

The convenience is also being able to see the driver coming towards you on the app so you can see (fairly) accurately how long they'll be, and feel the reassurance that they're definitely on their way.

If the choice is ordering an Uber or a taxi and they're the same price, I would opt for the Uber.

Yeah, quite a few people don't seem to realise this.

Must be nice, being able to pick and choose. And people say the gig economy is broken! (j/k)

4.83 - I tip occasionally (mostly when drunk tbh). I suspect I may have lost score on the one trip I travelled with an unannounced dog.

Never used Uber. Haven't had cause to use taxis in years to be fair.

+1 for the Never Ubered. I’ve set up the app, just in case I get stranded, but it would cost silly money to get to where I live.
