What next for 3D Mario? Odyssey 2, Galaxthree, Sunshine HD, 3D World 3, Retirement?

What would you guys most like to see for the next 3D Mario game?

Sad to say I got bored with Odyssey and, once the kids finished the game I never bothered going back (although I don’t think they did much of the after-game stuff either).

Might not a popular opinion, but I think they should shelve Mario until they can at least ramp-up the visuals significantly enough to seem completely new.

Mario isn't really about the visuals though, new entries (at least the best ones) in the 3D series always offered something new gameplay wise.

Having said that I think they really could do more with Galaxy than they have done.

What I'd really like though is Mario VR, unfortunately I don't see anyway that's happening any time soon, Nintendo making a VR Mario for Oculus would be amazing, but extremely unlikely and I don't think they are going to have the capability to do a system of their own that can do proper VR for years.

A proper sequel to super mario 64 and none of the mini level business.

Switch remaster of Galaxy 1&2 please.

Sunshine was the sequel to Mario 64. The "mini level business" is basically what ever Mario game was prior to 1996.

Mario 64 remake! They already have built some of it

Switch remasters of the Galaxy games would be hard without the pointer functionality of the wiimote surely? How does the Nvidia Shield TV version handle that?

I'd love ports/remasters of the existing 3D games on Switch, an Odyssey 2 would be incredible as well. I'm basically down for whatever they do with Mario next really!

They could improve it by getting rid of that WiiMote related crap.

Yep, just remove the star bits entirely and map spin to a button.

Odyssey sequel. The best moveset of any 3D platformer ever needs more content.

Odyssey or Sunshine sequel for me. Odyssey is my second-favourite game ever, but I think that if Nintendo did Mario Sunshine 2 they'd learn from a lot of the first time's mistakes.

A controversial opinion I have: I don't want another game in the style of the Galaxies. I was gutted when I picked up Galaxy 1 and discovered that it was all spectacle, no exploration. As someone who grew up on SM64, delighting in the freedom that gave, Galaxy's much more linear approach frustrated me. They're still great games, but I wouldn't want another one.

Less controversial opinion, probably; the 'Super Mario 3D' series should be forgotten about as soon as possible. They're not 3D Marios, they're 2D Marios in 3D; and 2D Mario also needs an overhaul, not looking to the past.

I'd like Mario Odyssey 2 with double the transformations.

Then a proper mario 64 sequel with pictures to dive through but the pictures take mario to previous games like Mario 64, Odyssey and Sunshine.

Also make Luigi with his vacuum pack a completion bonus so he can play through the full game but with a different moveset.

But there's more stuff than that which uses the Wiimote isn't there? I'm sure there's a few parts where it is fundamental to progression.

Don't you use it to move between those blue stars in few places and things like that?

I'm sure they could rework it easily enough, but the tactile feel of the mote+nunchuck controls was a part of the appeal of Galaxy for me.

i think it's most likely to be an oddysey sequel, but I'd prefer a sequel or at least a remake to sunshine, cuz that game could really do with expansion on what is already there

They need to move on from 3D to 4D.
