No, I do not mean Mario Party 9 or or whatever it is now, or Tennis etc, I mean a proper 3D Platformer.

What kind of Mario would you like next, a collection of mini games like SMG or a full on Mushroom Kingdom and big levels like in Super Mario 64 (the best game ever made)?

I would love Mario to go back to his roots. I want to see a proper massive 3D Adventure game with the traditional enemies and traditional power-ups (and only 3 power-ups please, it got ridiculous in SMG!)

I want more clever use of the wii-mote, more imaginative challenges and just for it to be bigger and better than Super Mario 64.

What do you guys want, how about the new Mario becoming cel-shaded, it would suit it?

I read first person perspective on this forum today and me likey the sound of that.

Edit: I really, really can't see how SMG can be topped.

Yeah, Hero of Canton already called it with Mario's Edge.

Forget a big step, I'd like something quick and simple. How about a remake of Super Mario World using the Galaxy engine?

Ditch the attempted story telling and concentrate on gameplay - a simple "Koopa/Bowser kidnaps Princess" premise is enough.

Purity. I second an extansion of SM64, with bigger levels and more tasks to earn stars. Also throw in the different playable characters from SM64DS please. Luigi > Mario.

It wasn't though, was it? It did have mini-game type levels in it but that wasn't its emphasis and the smaller levels were put together excellently, there were so many 'wow' moments to it and some brilliant level ideas (Matter Splatter Galaxy springs to mind). I'd be very happy with more of the same to be honest.

I do think you have a point in some ways though, I found a lot of the race levels to be a bit annoying, but maybe thats just cos i'm no good at them.

I'd like to see another New Super Mario Bros as well - the last one and Galaxy were both really well played by everyone in my student house last year (both gamers and non-gamers).

On a different note, I've thought for a while that a Mario-RTS would be good using the baddies as units (Goombas, Bullet Bills etc) it'd work so well with the Wii remote too.

Okay, I deliberately put that in there so people could debate whether they prefer the larger levels or tiny planet hopping, I have made it very clear which one I preferred. :D

I guess... the opposite way from Galaxy would be some kind of open world thing. Like the whole game being one big Super Mario 64 style level with lots of stars to get. Dunno if that would be good or horrid. It wouldn't seem to suit Mario very well, but stranger things have worked.

To be honest, the only way forward is to have the Galaxy setting, but with the actual exploration of SM64 on each of the planets.

Then after that would be to join the whole game together in one consistent Galaxy. Then there's nowhere left to go.

I would certainly like a return to the Mushroom Kingdom asthetic (Super Mario Bros 3 style) rather than the holiday or space vibes of Galaxy and Sunshine. To be honest Galaxy will be very, very hard to topple and Mario isn't really in need of a mjor overhaul in the same way as Zelda is and i would not complain if they made a direct sequel to Galaxy.

With regards to massive levels, i'm not sure if Mario really needs them, what i would say is that i would like the levels to appear large but actually be pretty well contained. None of the levels in Mario 64 were massive really, most of them were cul-de-sac esque, but to the player it appeared as though there was plenty to explore. In Galaxy the leves were perhaps a little restrictive at times in terms of their size.

I would like to see an exploration of the financial problems experienced by plumbers during the credit crunch, and the way they get around it. A new Edutainment title, if you will: "Mario's Super Tax Dodge."

Either that, or SMG2.

Did you just call the official GAME OF FOREVER a 'collection of minigames'?

The Super Mario Paradox, mario with a time manipulation mechanic like Prince of Persia where you can rewind, fastforward or slow down time to solve the challenges. Yeah, it's been attempted several times before, but if any game can get it working just right it will be mario. They did space with the whole gravity thing so time is the next logical step.
