Added to that, many religious people seem to pick parts of their chosen religion to follow and ignore other bits they maybe don't agree with, or think some aspects need changing. What if the gods want people to behave in the way they originally stated? Plus you've got contradictory religious text that's either the literal word of a god to be followed in full, or flawed because humans interpreted it so should only to be used as a rough guide, or somewhere in between depending on who you ask. Makes bugger all sense to me.
