No, I was always Abacus, way back to the old Gamesradar forum.

I'm not sure if Kiran ever made the jump across to GRCade, as I didn't join up here for many years after GR closed, so I missed those folk who maybe transferred and subsequently packed it in in the meantime.

I also used to mainly just like chatting nonsense to Atreyu and jambot back there. And Rocky, and mic, who I think does still surface on Resident Evil threads.

One thing I do recall from back in GR days was Driv3r - Gate and some of it played out there.

It seems quaint now, but essentially a game was released which was full of bugs, at a time when you expected games to be finished on release. Yet, it still got some great reviews, and one of the reviewers came on to the forum to explain why (basically, they thought it would all be fixed by the time of the retail release etc).

Anyhow, then another poster signed up and tore that argument to bits - clearly another games writer with the username Big Damn Hero - pointing out that what they had done was a preview, not a review. One of the most entertaining threads I'd ever read watching that eloquent back & forth.

Chalkitdown was a huge plus to this forum and it’s a worse place without him. What he did, he did with the best intentions, misguided as they were.

Great times. I think that was the first year I ran it.

It's a real shame that Chalky hasn't felt able to return to the forum, he was a good bloke who made a serious strawberry floating mistake. Looking back it's amazing we lucked through the absolute best case scenario of what could have been a monumental disaster.

Like I say I was torn with chalky but there was a possibility we would be liable especially if there was no evidence of action and I did get chased pretty hard over that. I think it took 3 months to decide what to do about it.

Dealing with the authorities was not a pleasant memory and the proxy was really very upset about it, as was the person who received it (who was not a member, so that was very distressing for a member of the public).

Pretty exceptional events. I was patently aware he had lots of friends and that was the hardest thing to drive a wedge into that. Chalky had a count down before his ban to say goodbye for now etc. And that included Christmas. Under normal circumstances that definitely wouldn't have happened.

Anyhow, to my mind, Kiran was Deaths Head so he did come over here but he didn't want to be a mod. Jambot threw a wobbly and deleted all his posts. Abacus is Abacus.

Driv3rgate was an industry event.

Also what even happened with chalky? Was it not public knowledge because I genuinely don't know what happened.

I remember Sam Seed being funny as strawberry float with the photoshops back in the day. I had thought Commander Jameson was decent too although actually he seems to have been quite the racist judging by thread linked to earlier.

Not sure why I stopped posting. I think I realised how much time I wasted on here and decided to stop. Since then I've got engaged, have a great career, bought a house and became a dad. And to think I started posting on here when I was 15! Still check in once a year or so to see what's being on. This time I discover Chalky is apparantly wanted by Interpol.
