I don't get the appeal of the theatre, seeing a play or musical really just isn't something I have any desire to do.

I use one with my Work laptop and one with my main machine. Want to get a second monitor but don't really have the money at the moment.

When you don't have an L-shaped sofa with which to block a door, you have to improvise.

Pay no attention to the sounds coming from the door in the corner! It is just the pipes. It is just the pipes.

Should see the state of mine.

Conveniently, the monitor and speakers hide most of the mess.

I actually have two desks in two rooms, I guess mine's a bit different (it's also massive but I like some of these two-tier setups). I'll take a photo in the week.

I can't use an external monitor with my laptop these days because of its stupid melted graphics chip but I definitely miss a big screen / dual monitor because it's so much easier to copy/paste and switch between two or three interfaces, especially business or multimedia production stuff. Or coding on one and UI/webpage on the other. I'd probably have to scroll less too.. Maybe I should actually fix the damn thing or just sort out a new computer entirely / switch to PC.

You can pretty much count on me using this thing way past the 10 year mark until it suffers something irreconcilable like a motherboard fault...

Ignoring the fact that the fake 2 core i7 that runs at about 100 degrees idle and the graphics chip that failed due to a single out of spec capacitor is an engineering / cooling fault on this motherboard that Apple had to eventually admit affected about 3 years worth of MBP revisions.

I happen to have a motherboard that is 100% Intel hardware under MacOS so will probably sort out a hackintosh at some point. My main machine is a glorified netbook at present, if it weren't for the "SuperDrive" swapped for a Samsung SSD in it, would be totally useless at this stage.

Instead sat next to that I have a 2 grand printer I whittled down from 5k. Damn if I weren't as frugal there's no way I wouldn't have replaced computers 3 or 4 times already with about the same money.

Truth is if you know what you're doing you don't need a powerful machine for most the work I do, sure it's a bit slower but it's not like I'm constantly transcoding video or anything like that. I'd like to do that more but then suddenly I'm a video editor / "YouTuber". The main thing I'd consider doing FT is music if I actually had any motivation past the performance aspect.

Here's my main haunt (art/design)

Image

Image

The desk is 2x1 metre so I can't really fit it in even with 24mm aspect lol.

The thing on the left is a small Direct to Garment printer, and curing unit.

Yes that's the "GRcade pacman" on an old Everglide mousemat, which is probably one of the oldest things I branded in 2014!

Obviously I make stuff here.

My browser is not full screen :fp: and you can just about see Adobe Illustrator's right menu behind that. I should be working but I've done the bare minimum in terms of Monday's usual slew of admin today.

Music/admin some other day. I also have a wood bench (which explains the wood hoard just about in shot), a tiny corner desk/shelves directly behind me which has another machine on it and a few other units / work surfaces, one which is essentially a self-contained CNC machine that would otherwise be free-standing, I built that myself.

Edit: found some other recent pics I don't mind uploading.

On the rare ocassion I'm not ploughing through shirts or some other stuff (I've just taken stock of about 100 which is my largest order to date) there's actually some room to put my legs up and sit on my arse while I make no money whatsoever.

Image

Image

Edit 2: Found some more, here's some exciting gooseberry fool happening

Here is my friend

Here is my other friend

That about covers it for World of Green Gecko, tune in next time for wires and gooseberry fool everywhere

I've already had to do that with this business up and running, yeah. Landlord changed, and sold up (inheritance, typical).

All I've added is built a bench and the DTG. Which is basically just another heavy printer.

And an A3 printer which is under the drawing table (it's not really a desk at all).

And more stock.

I gained a well converted/cellar and thus spare room for other stuff so it was a good thing. But certainly that's something anyone renting (especially with a lot of stuff / contingent on stuffs) dreads on an almost daily basis.

I keep all the shipping cartons for the gear though so in theory it won't get knocked up too bad in a pinch. Ideally I'd have a workspace somewhere else but whether I'd actually get there often enough with my problems travelling to make it worthwhile, that's another matter.

That CNC enclosure I made is 30mm MDF, it weights about 50KG :slol:

That desk was also sat upended in our kitchen in the last place, for about 4-6 weeks, until I finally got out a hacksaw and cut the frame up into three bits (it's steel), then drilled holes and bolted it together in about 40 places. So that breaks down too. The top also lifts off. Nabbing that was pretty much on an impulse and my mum sent a van guy across counties to collect it.

I'll never need another desk in my life.

Yeah try to figure out how I got that down the stairs on the right, which I have to duck or limbo to get down. They're strawberry floating mad.

This better explains why I need such a huge table.

Image

Oh wait lol, an average shopfront marquee graphic on my old desk which was just two Ikea desks screwed together.

Image

I then replaced that with this desk so it filled about half the room.

strawberry floating hell it's ridiculous compared to some actual commercial/industrial workspaces but it works for me, everything pretty much in an arm's reach, and not really any room to make a mess.

Edit: No wait that is the "new"/current desk. Was completely impractical to do any large scale graphics with the old desks. This is also when my external monitor worked with my laptop. Oh how I miss that screen real-estate. Bevel is ridiculous by today's standards though. I should probably get a nicer/newer screen for my PC which is upstairs.

I like that film

I have static cling up. Write on it with drywipe markers but it dries after a while and doesn't really wipe off anymore, so they're one or two uses only. It's a handy way to place instructions on a wall or write something you never wipe off for, er, about 2 or 3 years...

It's something I discovered from start up culture in my first FT/perm design/tech job. It's also an art school thing to just stick stuff up everywhere (pretty much for the entire duration of your degree), as it's both a source of inspiration / stimulation and a way to reflect on that thing you drew/painted/made x days/weeks/years ago and needs further development.

There's constantly stuff going up and down above the workbench definitely. It actually looks near identical, right now, to that fourth photo showing off my lovely long legs... I bought the clay around the time my mum was diagnosed with cancer and I felt this massive need to get back to basics and just sculpt/draw random stuff again.

I drew a saxophone characterised as a goose because, I don't know, my brain. I'll print that as a T-shirt or sell it for 1000 dollars for sure.

Right, now I gotta explain to someone that cutting stickers in a square shape is basically the same cost as cutting any other shape. How exciting.

I love when we get insights into Gecko's studio. Reminds me of a guy I used to work with who was big into the local hackspace and did lots of 3D printing at home - looked chaotic but was really arranged to be very usable (at least for him!).

Gutted that you have accidentally leaked the GRcade rebrand though - now everyone knows the new forum will be called "VAPE SHOP"

I guess the assumption is there is less waste cutoff if the stickers are square shaped? But in reality I imagine you can arrange the printing pretty efficiently to approximately tessellate whatever shape stickers.
