I prefer the more organic sounding option "Vape Tree" but it looks like that was discarded early in the development process

"Vape Tree" is a grower, but "Vape Shop" had more buy-in

Green Gecko wrote:Right, now I gotta explain to someone that cutting stickers in a square shape is basically the same cost as cutting any other shape. How exciting.

I guess the assumption is there is less waste cutoff if the stickers are square shaped? But in reality I imagine you can arrange the printing pretty efficiently to approximately tessellate whatever shape stickers.

That's nice  Yeah it's basically a private hackerspace/fabrication studio, only I bring 2D art design stuff and some 3D CAD/CAM skills. Pretty elementary there but I can make some cool stuff. Yup I can do a matrix cut which is basically just adding columns and rows to batch decals onto a roll or sheet, or I can tessellate, for that I use a really useful open source app that works with SVGs called deepnest: https://deepnest.io/

Uses deep learning to suggest a couple of nesting suggestions and saves loads of media that way, depending on what it is. It is also better environmentally and ecologically yeah because less negative space is being discarded. It's way harder to cut them up into singles then, however, because you can't just do it with a ruler. but I have a solution for that too, which is to do a kiss cut and through-cut seperately. First cut cuts out the stickers, second cut punches out the carrier sheet.

The thing is, my cutter is so fast, it's really not much faster to cut a rectangle or marquee, or really any other polygon. Complex outlines take longer, sure, but we're talking maybe 10, 20 minutes, meanwhile I can do something else.

Personally I like flush-cut or contour-cut stickers compared to a big white square, but that's me.

Also media isn't all that expensive, but loading sheets over and over again into my printer which is manual feed at the moment, that sucks and takes time.

Anyway, don't want to make this the green gecko thread!

Edit: lol you guys, that was for a somewhat average vape shop that closed down about 12 weeks later and got bought out by their single local competitor :slol:

I guess they thought it would be edgy and cool to just write VAPE SHOP. PLEASE BUY THINGS WE'RE BROKE in strawberry floating all caps helvetica black.

They were directly across from the train station so needed something attention grabbing. I don't blame them but none of my business really whether it backfired, they just sent me the layout and I cut and installed it for something stupid like £38...? Completely ripped myself off there. This was years ago now.

I returned the dual monitors provided by work and replaced it with one larger 4K monitor for my desk setup. The room I use as an office is small, so it's a nice space saver and it's my only 4K screen in the house, so it's nice to be able to play PS5 games in full resolution. The PS5 looks much smaller sat on my desk than it does sat on the floor in the lounge.

For a work purpose, one screen isn't as good as two, despite technically doubling the resolution which is available to me. I have upgraded to a larger monitor, but even still, I need things scaled somewhat to actually be able to read it, so the resolution gain isn't fully realised. One 4K screen is an improvement when working on a single large model, but when two are open simultaneously I have hindered myself slightly. What I have done though is bought a monitor stand to raise it up by enough height that I can keep my laptop screen sat beneath the monitor, except when a cat wants to walk across my desk, which is a pretty regular occurrence!

That shop closed down ages ago, actually they were bought out by their competitor SMOKETRONICS.

I'm not making this up, that's actually what it's called.

That's not that bad a company name actually, certainly not as bad as something I saw on TV the other day; there's a company who make products for afro-caribbean hair called Afrocenchix, I'm not knocking the company for existing but it just sounds and looks like someone attempting to spell Afrocentric and not quite getting there, it'd be a fairly clever name if they replaced the 'chix' bit with 'trix' and it'd actually make sense.

Anyway on topic, objects on my desk (aside from the PC and monitor) include a Samsung laser printer, a USB cdrw drive, a few pieces of upholstery foam and recent albums by Red Hot Chili Peppers, Jack White and Rammstein.

The favourite object at the moment is a tiny legit Tamiya pullback RC car about 2 inches long, on top of a miniature metal school locker, because Japan. All that's missing is Solid Snake.

It's harder to apply by phone, which is how I tend to post these days and it causes people issues when quoting, so I switched it to just an occasional thing. I now consider green my 'shiny' posts at a rate of about one in ten.

I agree though that it feels somewhat wrong for me not to post in green!
