Assassin's Creed Black Flag is probably the first I can remember. Loved the pirate ships and spent many hours sailing the seas and collecting treasure but barely bothered with the story at all.

But story-wise it just didn't grab me and after tens of hours the fatigue took hold and I walked away.

This for me as well! It's an amazing game to play and I put in I think over 60 hours, but I dropped it for whatever reason and have never gone back. Having heard so much about how it is unfinished I'm quite nervous about actually finishing it and tarnishing the series in my head.

I'm pretty sure you have to repeat the first half of the game again or something? You do the exact same missions. My memory is a bit hazy but I also loved it, put a load of time into it and then dropped it at about that point.

Having checked, it appears there is a point in the game (post jeep ride) where no new missions unlock, but hard mode versions of the previous missions unlock. You have to either complete a couple of them, or a few more side missions to progress the story, and I stopped playing then.

I finished Gears 4, but I found the exact same thing you found with 4 with 5.... I have actually uninstalled 5 and just called it a day about 2 months ago figuring id sooner play other things... I will always love the earlier games though, and id be more likely to replay 1 to 3.

My bad, Gears 5 is the one I was talking about. I can't even remember 4.

I could not get through 5 either.

It's crazy how long and padded it is compared to other MGS games and it's still not even a full story.

I'm the same as you guys, got to the point where the story just seemed to give up and I never went back.

I wasn't a fan of huge amounts of the dialogue and story being hidden in the audio messages as well. Having to listen to each one to be able to piece together what the strawberry float was happening.

Which is a shame as it was an amazing game. Just a shame Kojima isn't going to get to finish the whole thing off.
I would have expected 6 by this point as well. Or a remake of the original Metal Gear to start bringing the story full circle.

strawberry floating Konami.

Far cry 2 - huge map with respawning checkpoints every 50ft. Malaria (who thought that was a good idea) and jamming guns. Such a shame as the setting was one of the most interesting. They nailed the formal with 3 though.

Add me for Metal Gear Solid 5.

I loved the previous games, but I didn't finish the V and I couldn't get into it anymore.

Yes, I think MGS4 was better. :shifty:

I was going to say Gears 5 but I don't think I played 3 in which case I'd say Mario 64. (I did actually complete it a couple of years ago via the All Stars collection on Switch)

I didn't played through SMB 1,2,3 at the time of their original release but by the time of Mario 64 I'd completed them all through All Stars and obviously Super Mario World.

TBH, (this is probably blasphemy to some) I think Mario 64 is gooseberry fool! In fact I think the 16 bit Mario Kart and Zelda piss all over their 64bit equivalent. 16 bit was peak 2d. It's only recently that 3d games have reached an equivalent quality.

Pokemon Black/White 2 - granted I only played this one after (I think) X/Y and maybe even Sun/Moon, but it's the only mainline pokemon entry I didn't finish. Missed some of the quality of life features and it didn't help that I wasn't especially into gen 5.

Fire Emblem Awakening, though I did eventually go back to finish it some years later. Had played all the handheld FE games released in the West up until that point. Awakening had a lot of good qualities but it also kind of rubbed me the wrong way. Micro-transaction portal on the world map, villains I couldn't take seriously (and general silliness in the writing), and how unbalanced the new pair-up mechanic was.

I’m not sure if you can ever finish a racing title but I gave WipEout Fusion a good few weeks and after a bug deleted my save for the 4th time I gave up. The game itself, for me at least is the farthest a series has ever fallen in quality. The game was a bug-filled mess ridden with questionable design decisions. Thankfully the next game, WipEout Pure turned out to be the best in the series.

Ass Creed Unity. Although I did play Syndicate after it. That game is basically a better Unity.

Spirit Tracks. It was shite.

I finished MGS5 but honestly, I thought it was a strawberry floating mess.

Tomb Raider Chronicles, because it was jobbies with sweetcorn through it. Ruined my Christmas that year.

MGS Snake Eater, I'm in the minority but I just didn't like it.

Yeah I still need to finish this on Switch as well.

But then I didn't complete Twilight Princess either so it's definitely not the first in the series for me

Pretty much complete everything of a series I like or if I hear bad thaings I just won’t buy the game. For me it’s only Tales of Zesteria from the Tales series, the combat and story were just so off.

Cant believe I’ve seen Final Fantasy VIII and X mentioned

Assassin's Creed Valhalla. I have a compulsion in these games to complete every icon on the map and there are like five different maps in this game.
