PM Fatdaz, he's a copper.

I'm currently unemployed, due to Barclaycard being *****, though I'm fighting the dismissal, and will win.

Return_of_the_star is also a cop.

Depends where u live, london pays better to compensate living costs. On the whole it pays alright without needing loads of qualifications. I think to be a copper u need C's in English and Maths then pass an assesment centre (basically to establish you arent rascist, a thug or thick as pig gooseberry fool) easy enough. The assesment is based on quick interview, written and maths test, and role play acting scenarios (see how you deal with pressure and aggresive people). Fitness requirement is laughable really too.

The job is great, varied exciting rewarding. It can be tough as you deal with difficult situations, you need self confidence and not be afraid of confrontation. Starting wages are about 22k up to 24k after training then each year it increases up to 31k for a basic constable. Promotion earns big money and better pension. Pension itself is great if u stick the full career. Shift patterns can be tough, working nights but its varied i work 6 on 4 off so i get long rest days! Overtime is plentiful if u want it! No 2 days are ever the same and i love it, but paperwork can be a pain sometimes as can general negative attitude to police.

I cant say much about Community support officers they get paid less, have less responsibility and dont get to drive cars fast :D Return of the Star can probably tell u more.

I work in Admin for Sainsbury's, it truly is hell. I'm going back to study Entertainment Technology in September though, hopefully to make something of my life. I predict I'll have dropped out by January, come March I'll be offering handjobs on the street for crack rocks.

Contracting is ok as long as you get at least a 6 month contract. You can earn a full years salary in that time and tbh good contractors never struggle to get there next contract. I recommend you check out this site http://www.contractoruk.com/

Is there any way I can be a detective relatively easily? I have all the relevant qualifications, including a good degree from a top uni and I've watched every Murder She Wrote off the tele.

EDIT: I'm actually serious about how someone can become a detective.

Watch Columbo and A Touch of Frost until you know them by memory and also start saying "There's been a murder" in a Glaswegian accent at every opportunity.

There's probably a lot more to it than just this, but you can jump straight into a Detective profession with the right degree/training, foregoing the time in uniform. I guess you'd just apply for that position specifically. I think, anyway.

And so people should complain. You work a shift like that, you come home and you're tired with no energy to do anything else. You shouldn't have to live most of your life like that.
