Yeah but I'm not sure you can count it as a dead franchise because of that. I haven't liked Call of Duty since COD4:MW but I'd struggle to get away with calling it dead.

Damn that series completely slipped my mind. Then again you could easily argue MK was never good and inferior to the fighting games created in glorious nippon :shifty:

The first one was pretty poor once the novelty of the gore wore off but 2 and 3 were actually quite good.

MK3 was the best one though, the combo system made it more technical and some of the character designs were really interesting.[/quote

For me, Youtube killed Mortal Kombat for me.

I’ll just watch the falilties on YouTube. I always prefer the superior Streetfighter combo system than the air juggling combos.

Anyone remember the Batallion Wars Games on Wii?

A spin off from the Advance Wars series, they were a lot of fun if you were able to look over some flaws in the way they played and generally being a bit more of a mashing together of toy soldiers than the tactical outing of its inspiration. Amazingly we actually got two of them in the space of a few years and I think the second even had online play. Ultimately though I think poor sales and luke warm critical reception killed any chance of further development and I don’t think we’ve heard anything of the ‘Wars series since. Instead we get strawberry floating clone after clone of samey weeabo fire emblem gooseberry fool.

Would love to see the series back.

Also, not really back from the dead but Breath of the Wild saved the Zelda games from their downward slide into Metroid style popular relevance.

I bought and enjoyed both games (the first was a Gamecube game, only the second came out on Wii), the controls could be a little odd at times, but it was a really enjoyable series.

After finishing the excellent god of war a few weeks back, I've been thinking how amazing a soul reaver game done in that style could be. Imagine the looks of GOW, metroidvania design like the original dark souls :datass:

I think Unbounded and whatever the gash f2p mobile game was killed it dead - RR quickly perfected itself to its own detriment i think, to the point that they got stuck in either not innovating enough or trying too hard and ruining it.

I totally agree, but i think there have been more cancelled Legacy of Kain/Soul Reaver games over the years than there have been actual releases at this point.

I once played a demo of Dino Crisis, i was utterly terrible at it.

Same with the Resi games too (well, on PS1 anyways as i haven't played any of the later titles), i found the controls too slow and clunky.

Killer Instinct was gone for years then got back into tournaments and really caused som excitement.

Bloody Roar, Bomberman, Actraiser, Chuck Rock, Speedball, Turrican, R Type, KOTR and Plasma Sword/Star Gladiators all need to make a comeback.

Wish my image sig would work

I had Batallion Wars on the Gamecube and enjoyed it, though I only learned much later that it had a link to the Advance Wars series. Was unsure of that at the time.

Would want a 3D or new home console outing of an Advance Wars games to be more faithful to the way the series plays, personally, but wouldn't mind Battalion Wars coming back a little more refined as I like my war games. Advance Wars Dark Conflict came out after BWII, by the way.

As for Zelda, yeah BotW has escalated the series popularity even more but I think even a competent outing in the traditional formula would have been very popular. Whatever I feel about Skyward Sword, it sold well considering it was on a console on its way out, and A Link Between Worlds sold well too. The series was still on a good course.

I've actually just finished MK X. It's fine but the controls feel stiff and doesn't feel as good as Street Fighter imo. That said it felt better than 9 and the fatalities make it worth playing IMO.

Am I the only one who likes tank controls. They work for horror games because they restrict your movements.

I didn't play 3rd Birthday but I loved the first two Parasite Eve games, especially the first so I'd love to see that series make a comeback. I never did finish PE2 as I got stuck on the end boss so I might revisit that game later this year.

Until I played the Resident Evil 2 Remake I used to think that, but it just doesn't make sense anymore.

RE2R still has that tight, constrained claustrophobic feel, while giving you all the control freedoms that most modern 3rd person games have.

Skyward Sword is the worst selling Console Zelda (aside from MM maybe) and it was on Nintendo's most successful console. I don't think 4mil sales on a near 100mil install user base represents good sales, especially for a tent pole franchise. It was a low point for a downward slope in sales for the series. I don't think there was a chance of Nintendo ditching the series but if BOTW continued that trend it certainly starts to look like a franchise in trouble.
