Princess Kate battling cancer

But seriously, the way KP have handled this has been appalling. They let a lady struggling with cancer take the fall for their photo strawberry float up ...must have been horrible for her these past few months.

I hope she makes a full recovery.

Horrible news. And strawberry float cancer, obviously.

What a gooseberry fool show of a situation all round, awful enough for her that she has cancer (strawberry float cancer) but then has to put up with the cack handed way the family business have managed the PR which has basically thrown her under the bus and made it all ten times worse.

Nobody deserves cancer and I hope she recovers.

It doesn't change just how terrible the Royals are at PR though.

They could have clarified the situation without giving away the detail. Just because this is the end result doesnt mean it was any better handled. If anything it makes it worse they put her through all that.

It’s so bizarre, given how universal the praise was at the openness about the King’s condition, that they then made such a PR mess of this. You can argue that each person has the right to choose how much they reveal, but given her profile, it was always going to be speculated upon.

If they want to get the public back on side (though understandably they maybe don’t give much of a strawberry float about that right now), they should just show the original photo and admit they edited it because she looked awful. With the treatment she’s having, they’re going to have to accept that pictures of her looking dreadful are going to be on the cards for a while, unless she withdraws from public life entirely during treatment.

But the “we needed time to tell the kids” excuse is poor. It’s been going on for weeks.

To be fair they had already told the public she'd had major abdominal surgery that would require a recovery period. It wasn't exactly a big mystery why she was away from the public eye initially.

The bizarre desire - especially from the press - for her to 'show herself' shortly after she came out of hospital may have even contributed to that rushed family photo in the first place. Yeah, it was poorly handled by them obviously, but I don't think the press and elements of social media can get away scott-free with any of this.

It goes both ways I think.

She went into hospital just after Christmas and hadn't been seen since. It's not a surprise the press/public would begin to speculate where she was, especially when they were so shady about the whole thing.

I'd normally agree with the right to privacy. But we live in a monarchy, it's not out of order to demand to know where the future Queen is.

I know people like to knock the royals but in moments like this the outpouring of support from the general public is going to be huge. Like they’ll have to rent Hyde Park to hold all the flowers that are going to be sent their way kind of massive.

There's speculation and then there's whatever the hell the last few weeks have been. The response to her post-surgery recovery has been just as badly handled as the Royal Family's PR response IMO.

Also, was there ever any question of where the future Queen was? I mean, other than wild conspiracy theories, it's obvious to everyone she was likely just recovering from the surgery or something along those lines.

The only reasons I can think they didn’t tell the public is because the kids weren’t told, and the reason they’ve come out with it now is because someone tried to access her medical records (and maybe have) and were about to leak it.

Terrible news though. Whether or not accurate, it sure feels like more public figures and those who aren’t that old are getting cancer more than ever.
