The price increases have gone live, hooray. Looking at how much GW stuff is has made me reconsider a few projects; downsizing some planned armies I will never get round to into Kill Teams instead, swapping for more for my "main" projects, but also made me look elsewhere, its amazing what you can get for comparatively less if you look outside the bubble.

Some 9th edition stuff:

The Command phase is a quick new addition to the turn sequence. In this phase, Battle-forged armies will acquire new Command points and spend the ones they have on certain Stratagems.

We’ll have a closer look at command points specifically, later this week.

I finished off Anirion the wizard from the Reaper learn to paint, layer up kit last night, and I'm pretty pleased with it. First time trying to layer on shadow and highlights, and I'm really pleased with the result. Made it much easier to tidy up mistakes when you know you can recreate the exact colour, rather than have to repaint the base colour and then rewash.

Shame the Reaper Bones minis use such soft plastic, I could not get that staff to look straight again at all. :x

dude thats really really good

tip for straightening is to use hot water to soak it and then adjust a little at a time and hold it in position with like pliers (softly) or something flat

have you got more models so you can keep it up?

Good job on winning the competition false, also that wizard looks good knoyleo, also well done for taking a better picture than 95% of most new painters on the internet, who typically post a picture taken zoomed in way too far with a monstrous flash so every brush stroke and tiny error stand out, against a really busy background or with the light source behind the model so you can't see anything at all.

I was on 2hrs of conference calls this morning, so I had a lot of time to set those shots up. The background is just a sketchbook propped open against a glass.

The Reaper paints are really nice to paint with, and don't need any thinning down, but they're quite glossy, so I had a nightmare trying to take a photo where the colour wasn't totally obscured by glare.

Missed this earlier, yeah, there's 2 more models from that reaper kit, and I also picked up the other "easy to build and paint" kits from GW, although to avoid duplicating paints, I only got the nighthaunt set in full, then just the sprues for the death guard plague marines and the stormcast eternals, plus a handful of other paints.

Also, a painting handle, which has been a godsend.

:shifty:

I blame my wide angle camera which literally takes the entire room in unless you shoot like 10cm away. Should try some other lenses.

Edit: I'm being too hard on myself, I actually shot those with my SLR. It's probably exactly because I shot them with a massive LED light that every single flaw is apparent to me, but oh well. I'll try bouncing light next time.

The best are where they're blurry, as if the model was moving too quickly to take a steady shot.

They might be really awful phone cameras or in a dingy basement ( ;) ), but more likely the person just can't hold their hands still - which is a pretty essential part of the hobby, I pretend it's like snipering in MGS, diazepam would probably help.

Myself I just hold my breath until I pass out do breathing exercises.

Seen a few threads about how it's an awkward time to support a company that is a primary peddler of might is right fascism as entertainment. Can't really disagree, the writers these days don't really have the intelligence or nuanced understanding to go for shades of grey or parody/satire in a classic 2000AD kind of way, everything is strictly defined on racial lines, with many negative traits baked in based on this, for years the main black guys have been presented as genetically abnormal with glowing red eyes, segregated off in a separate Chapter, women as a core part of the universe are a fairly recent addition, there are some other fairly problematic art/lore choices in terms of race, Imperial subjugation and oppression is presented as the good guys fairly (these days) uncritically, blah blah blah. A lot of the comments are about how people don't think GW should comment/respond as they don't want to see politics in their hobby, but it's all political already.

Yeah, they've had some problematic representation in the past.
