that's a bonkers model. Think we'll see some fantastic paint jobs on that down the line.

Anyone picking up Horus Heresy this weekend? I've got the box set and new tank on order, used to play it a good 6 years ago but now it's in plastic and not horrible forgeworld resin can definitely see it being a bit more accessible for new players.

Some new Citadel paints announced - 25 new contrast paints, reformulated shades with 7 new shades, and a new white spray paint: https://www.warhammer-community.com/202 ... pray-ever/

While I'm not sure if I'll get into Horus Heresy I might get a couple of the tanks for 40K, I really like the look of the Heresy era tanks compared to the 40K era tanks and it's great that they're finally in plastic.

I had a sizable Emperor's Children army but sold it well before this was formally announced but was heavily rumoured; I can't keep pace with the GW rules/product cycle anymore and made a considerable amount to fund various other projects instead.

some interesting colours but mostly analagous to whats already there, a bit brighter perhaps?

and the new shades, most seem to be doing what people are already doing with thinned down contrast, like the soulblight one is just thinned apothecary white

will wait to see what other people do with them before i waste any money

Last weekend my and boys found some of my old miniatures and they had a blast.
We had a squad of unassembled Khorne Bezerkers I let them build and they loved it!

Took my oldest to the local Games Workshop Warhammer (when did it get renamed?) to pick up some paints and brushes, and I got him the little £10 starter pack magazine with the two clip together models.

When they went to bed I couldn't resist busting out the paints and having a try again.

Bro. It is much harder than I remembered it being!
So frustrating, but I think I need to remember I won't paint as well as I did twenty something years ago straight off the bat. Beginner all over again

But, I painted a berserker... Sort of.
I did the base coats and the initial agrax wash (may have gone overboard with the wash). It needs lot of tidying up though. And I accidentally gave him council estate girl eyebrows with the Balthazar's Gold

Tonight I shall clean it up, get rid of the gold that should be in places, and get rid of the red where it shouldn't be), highlights and details (eyes, hair on the axe etc) and report back!

glad you posted in the thread

the thing to remember is that its paint, and you can cover your mistakes with paint, so its not a big deal - nobody gets the final result with the first stroke

what you can do for the wash is to go over the model with the red again, but leave the recesses - what this will do is leave you shaded areas, and defacto create highlighted areas where the base red has gone over again - youll find it makes the world of difference to perceived quality of finish

good effort!

Also water down the paint until you need to paint it 10 times before it's actually red, it's the only way to be pro. ;)

You'll be done in 10 years, like me.

It's amazing you're doing this stuff with your kid. I remember my first set of ultra marines, drowning in blue paint, like some kind of goo monster. And stuck together with UHU glue, because supposedly that was non-toxic.

I was maybe 6, so I consider them to be top tier.

Ok, I've revisited that model from the other night. And I'm going to call it done.

It's not great, but like I said to Falsey, I'll improve from here :D

Before / After from the other night:

I can already see bits I've missed on this one, but oh well.
And the starter paint set doesn't have a proper green, only the tesseract glow - which is how I've ended up with this Toxic riverbed type of a base...

I think I'm set on starting a Space Marine Army.
A nice, safe, gateway back into the hobby.

I've been playing with the ImpCat app (how brilliant is that by the way?).
And I've come up with this sort of scheme...

Image

I shall report back once I've tried it out.

I did have this scheme at first before the wife said it looked like C3P0 from the force awakens :slol:

Also: Fell down the rabbit hole of Contrast paint videos on YouTube.
And then Contrast versus Army Painters speedpaint range.

They look awesome, but can't help but wanna stick to what I know (or remember at least) with y'regular base paints and washes.

id hang tight until the new ones come out, i think next month and then see what the videos are like

they have a new white base spray and yellows, red and blue so might be worth keeping an eye on before you pull the trigger

I won both of these on eBay for £2.20. came primed in a dark grey, but I've given them a spray of white. And I'm going to try my yellow scheme on them later.

I actually had this exact space marine Captain twenty years ago! 8-) Well chuffed!

You can definitely understand why they made the switch to purely plastic models (aside from preventing kids gluing their fingers together), because the amount of imperfections in the moulding on these metal models is bonkers in comparison to the new models.

Yeah, I remember lots of time spent with putty and a magnifier back when I painted metal miniatures. A chunk of time is spent filling in gaps and sanding carefully.

I do love the heft of metal miniatures though.
