they look very good

I’ve been thinking recently with all the cool to hate gw stuff, and they do do some bad behaviour, but their model quality and artwork the last year or so is just unparalleled

other companies can knock out some pretty resin and that kind of thing and some of the stl suppliers can do nice things - in theory - but gw are just absolutely smashing it in terms of frequency, consistency, quality, and even diversity

it’s a great time to be a fan if you aren’t brain sick and need to own every release

cant speak for the rules which also seem to be having frequent reworks, but the models..

I am entirely unsurprised, but interesting to note that they aren't officially called squats, but Leagues of Voltann(TM). I am now out of GW in terms of current rules but will happily plunder their models for other rulesets. I'm currently speed painting a WHFB-style Empire army for use in some different games, using gw stuff where necessary but proxying in 3d prints, historical models etc.

Shameless plug for these 1990s-style Space Dwarfs.

Also a very cool place if you get the chance to go, but avoid the food in bugmans lol

My wife and I went a couple of years ago now and, once I got past the awkwardness of buying tickets (the guy was quizzing me on the lore, how long I'd been collecting, etc even after I said I didn't have any Warhammer), it was a really awesome place to visit and just admire the artistry of all the displays.

Didn't go anywhere near the food court though. The place was full of stereotypical nerds and I'm far to cool for that.

The new chaos look great, the trike is cool too

Just ordered the ash wastes guys as well

It’s easy to poop on gw as they are the biggest and shrewdest but by god are they doing some amazing sculpts now

So much good stuff there.

Old school tactical square marines with the coned helmets (I still have a set of lead ones and really should do them up.)

Not sure if the "traitors" are chaos or genestealer cultists? Would make good diversification models though.

The bug/dragon rider things are great, almost like a Warhammer tyranids but riders. Wouldn't mind doing some of those.

They're Chaos traitor Guard. Could easily be used as a Necromunda gang too. They're a multi-part kit except for the Commisar and Ogryn, those two are a re-release from a Blackstone Fortress expansion I think.

I like how Horus Heresy comes with retro red measuring sticks, templates, scatter dice etc. The game is based on an older edition of 40K I believe, fun fit with the 'historical setting' theme, and the old school Space Marine designs fit well with that too.

Games Workshop stores used to sell those templates and things back in the early 90s. I remember buying just the Rogue Trader rulebook and a box of Space Marines to get started:

I asked last year and turns out a few of you were considering it, so I'm asking again: is anyone going to the UK Games Expo at Birmingham NEC? I'm only there on the Friday this year.
