Anyone else do drop fleet / drop zone by hawk games? I picked up just one at Dice Saloon in Brighton (great place, probably one of a very few you can actually by the full range of multiple brands of paint, finishes primers etc) without postage and a actually being able to see the paint in most cases. They were sorting through a box. They don't seem to be selling so it might be a good time to look for bargains. I don't really care about the game.

Just because I like the models. This one was a ground walked of some kind but I prefer the Scourge with their tenticley appearance. Might pass for tyranid fleets, or could even paint with the same colour scheme.

But I'll probably do something different to the standard scheme because it's a bit too orange. I'll find a pic when I'm on laptop. The models are really nice and price is super reasonable so been meaning to pick one up for a while. It was only about 7 quid.

Obviously now I'm preoccupied with choosing a race, and it all goes downhill from there. I've barely painted 15% of my tyranids in terms of, er, surface area.

Some of the frigates, cruisers and baffleships look awesome. I was always attracted to citadel Epic range (battle fleet gothic I think) but they are bit cartoony in comparison and discontinued long ago.

I played Dropzone Commander a couple of times, the models are beautiful and you can create some awesome looking tables too. Issue we had was only two of us from the club invested in it so it got a bit stale as there was no variety to our games.

In other news I've been learning how to do lava basing for a new AoS Ironjawz army, happy with the final outcome.

Seemed to be a bit of Twitter drama last night after Tzeentch armies won at a couple of AoS tournaments over the weekend :P

Got back on there with my old account just recently, as I've decided to get more involved with my hobbies again to take my mind off politics over the next few years :dread:

Twitter is not the place to go to take your mind off politics.

In my experience it's not that difficult to create a wargaming bubble on Twitter, a lot of wargamers on there are much more interested in posting about the hobby than anything else, especially on the fantasy side - just gotta curate your feed. I mainly used Twitter like that for years until I set up another account for following news and politics (mostly for sharing news in our political threads here on GRcade). I use Facebook and Instagram exclusively for hobby stuff to this day as well, I never got into them for anything else. I'm generally not a fan of social media, but most wargaming forum members from back in the day migrated to Facebook groups, Instagram etc and I wanted to keep up with what hobbyists were working on and discussing :P

A friend of mine follows zero people and uses lists instead. That way you can categorise based on what you actually want from the content on Twitter. If someone starts banging on about politics put them in a different list.

Seems smart to me as it puts you in control rather than scrolling through swathes of pointless crap.

That's what i've done on Facebook and Instagram, it makes using both a much nicer place.

So painted up an army of Mawtribes for Age of Sigmar on Friday, took them to a tournament on Saturday. Got a painting nomination and went 3-0 and got 2nd place. I'll take that!

Didn't realise you were an NCL Warlords person. My partner has been trying to get into warhammer clubs and whatnot to make friends since we moved up to Newcastle a few months ago, went a few times on the Thursday nights and played a few games, but I think found it quite hard to make inroads with people there so he seems to have given up for now.

I started doing the same at my local indie clubs my end last year, truth be told it did take quite a few visits and joining the facebook group etc to get in there but its fun now

I think the nerdy people are just kind of insular and hard to break into

Aye it's a tough one. I like Warhammer but I've always steered away from clubs because you never know what you're going to get a with a stranger, I don't have the patience to grind through 3 hours of 40K of an evening with a complete weirdo, and unfortunately that is always a distinct possibility. My partner is far better at that but he's struggled up here, tried a few nights at the local GWs and they were all non-starters, NCL Warlords seemed the best so hopefully he will go back, maybe play something not so tedious as 40K, Warcry or whatever instead.

I founded and run Newcastle Warlords. It’s a shame he felt like that as I’d say 99% of the blokes are more than welcoming/up for games. Get him to give me a shout and I’ll be sure to chat with him and try to organise something for him :)

He defs had some good games and out of all the club's he's been to it seemed the best around. Part of the reason for the break is thinking a move to something AoS might provide a lighter, more fun game, but he needs to get his gooseberry fool together with a warband and whatnot, so we'll see!

Some (Not very great because of my camera skills) pictures.
(I've put them in a Spoiler box as they're pretty large)
The box for the Core Set,

The back of the Core Set box,

The two expansions I got,

One side of the Play mat,

Front of the rule book,

Back of the rule book,

The Core set models. Sadly one of them was damaged in transit and his arm was resting in a different part of the box when I unpacked it. I'm going to contact the makers and see if they can replace it but I suspect they won't be able to so I might just have to try and carefully glue it back on with some Games Workshop glue or something,
Image

Close ups of the core set models (I have yet to learn their names)

Back of one of the expansions,

And the model it comes with,

Back of the other expansion,

And its model,

I haven't even looked at the rule book or watched any video tutorials yet but there are an absolute gooseberry fool ton of cards with this thing for playing. There's also some model buildings in with the core set, 29(!) dice, about 200 tokens...so despite the rule book being only 20 or so pages I suspect the game will be a bit more complex than it first appears.

I've been trading some models with work colleagues before all freedom of movement ends. I've ditched my space marine project as it was one too many, going to focus on my chaos marines for now. I had the space marine halves of the Tooth and Claw, Dark Imperium and Shadowspear boxes; I now have a second chaos half of shadowspear:

Image

and these guys:

Image

I have fewer models in my backlog (although I imagine painting the lords discordant will take as long as about 20+ marines each), and broke about even in terms of monetary cost so everybody wins.

Anyone else working on quarantine projects?

The End Times are upon us, GW is closing all stores and shutting down their factory and distribution centres:
The safety and wellbeing of all our customers and staff are paramount to everyone here at Games Workshop. In response to the developing global situation surrounding the spread of COVID-19, and following the advice and instruction from both the government here in the UK and throughout the world – we are closing Games Workshop sites around the globe.

This means that all our Warhammer and Games Workshop stores will be shut from the 24th March until an initial date of the 14th April. We’ll also be closing our factory and distribution centres – so our online stores (Games Workshop, Forge World and Black Library) won’t be selling or shipping any physical products during this period either. If you’ve recently placed an order and are waiting for it to arrive, please give us 48 hours to contact you. If you've still got questions after that, then please drop our Customer Service team a line via email, they’ll be valiantly working from home to ensure you’re supported over this period.
