I get that this is fantasy etc, but those helmets would be really heavy and if an opponent grabbed the horns in close combat and pulled then you're basically dead as they twist your head off like a bottle cap.

Now none of the High Elves can fit in the door if they're wearing their Longhorn Helms.

I'm nearly done with my classic necromunda, about 80% painted.

Happy with how Mad Donna turned out, based her on Suicide Squad Harly Quinn.

Overwatch is changing in 9th edition

The first and biggest change is that Overwatch has shifted from a standard reaction to a Core Stratagem, costing 1 Command point to perform. As Stratagems can only be used once per phase, you’ll have to think long and hard about your odds of success. For example, Aggressors armed with flamestorm gauntlets are sure to roast some of the attackers, whilst a half-strength Astra Militarum squad may struggle to cause enough damage to warrant the cost.

Combined with the terrain changes this should make the game more about choice and consequence rather than just sitting on a gunline shooting at anything that moves, hopefully make it more mind games about baiting your opponent into overwatch on a decoy unit etc.

they have been really brave with the material designs on nighthants and stuff the last couple of years, really massive scope for painters

Finished up the final character in the Reaper layer up kit, so that's that project complete. First attempt at black skin tone, and I'm pleased with how it turned out.

Fun kit, and it's a cool way to learn about shading and highlighting, beyond GW's use a wash and edge highlight method.

I'm not convinced when Reaper say their bones minis don't need priming, though. You can see the paint has chipped on the wizard on the left already.

Just waiting for an order with some primer and a wet palette to arrive, then it's back to some more GW minis.

Thanks man.

It was definitely the most interesting to paint of the 3, a lot more variety in the textures on the model, and all the areas on it felt a good size to work with. I can definitely feel my skill set coming along.

GF's birthday is coming up and I thought a neat little present would be some sort of good quality dragon model she could paint. Looking at Warhammer there doesn’t seem to be a tonne of options, surprisingly. Anyone know of any other miniature lines that specialise in something like that a bit more? I’m guessing something like D&D might have something?

Reaper Miniatures do a decent range, not all are in stock but there should be one here to suit:

gooseberry fool, some of those are amazing and prices are great. And they're actually dragons and not strawberry floating wyverns.

Yeah, hopefully the Temple Dragon comes back in stock as that's more her style.

GG, please, I don't want to go down the 'List of dragons' Wikipedia rabbit hole again.

It helps that the model was a muscly boy with lots of definition, but it was a pretty simple layer up of base coat, 3 progressively darker shadow layers, 3 progressively lighter highlight layers, and then a few glazes in the basecoat colour again.

Trying to paint up some nighthaunts from the GW build and paint set is a miserable time in this heat, paints keep drying out on the palette way too quickly.

Can't wait for my order of spray primer and wet palette to arrive.

You can try retarder e.g.: https://www.cassart.co.uk/painting/acry ... tarder.htm

I've been using this to grind dried paints i.e. pestle and mortar (but really just the end of a brush in pot) back into usable from pretty much completely dry for several years. A tiny drop on hot days and you'll never have this problem.

Not cheap though and then you're pretty much into multiple primers and other paint body mediums, thinners etc...
