I so want to paint up an Emperor's Children Chaos army, but knowing the noise marines will need kit bashing with the finecast upgrade set, or overspending at forgeworld, really put me off, at least for now.

Shame GW ruined the Chad Primaris vs Virgin Firstborn memes by giving firstborn 2 wounds now, but equally, non primaris now feel way more viable for collecting again.

I went with resin third-party bits and trawling ebay, especially to go down the more 80s mohawk and guitar angle:

The paint job looks worse on camera and nowhere near as good as a lot of people, but I'm happy with the 30 or so I have now.

Aye, the hot pink and leopardprint looks boss. Must make for a really striking army on the table.

So happy with how these turned out. Wasn't really enjoying them initially when I was doing the first green base coat, but all the details really bring them together, and I'm especially pleased with the home blended pink/purple wash for the gross tentacle bits.

What's your lighting setup? My painting area has the worst lighting in the world for taking good pictures.

I prop open a small sketchbook in my home office room, because it gets a lot of light all afternoon. Just draw the curtains part way so the models aren't in direct sun, but it's still bright.

I need to take more photos, I've done quite a lot since my last post, your DG reminded me of my yellow, rust and black goo-themed DG kill team i spent ages on and haven't shared yet, among other things.

Daylight is best but knoy also knows cameras.

You can effectively bounce light things with an improvised infinity wall like that. Make a big difference.

My brother is starting to get me back into 40k, so I might take a look at the new Necron stuff coming out next month.

I picked up the new starter set, and I'm really enjoying painting up the new necrons in that, much more than I expected. Tempted to pick up more myself once the new releases arrive and I'm happy with a colour scheme.

You can get the Necron halves of the now OOP Indomitus box for not very much as everyone's dumped them in favour of Space Marines. I may have picked up one...then another....then the old start collecting Necrons and two boxes of Immortals :shifty: .

I posted it in the prized possessions thread but thought i'd put in here too as it may be more appreciated, but recently I spontaneously picked up a white whale of a model that was for sale for a great price on a facebook trading group:

Also did a mammoth undercoating session for my 30k army, although I think I have mild nerve damage in my hand from holding the spray can nozzle down for so long, so back to the airbrush I think. :|

Also in other news, Mantic continue their trend of redesigning old GW game concepts and are releasing their own version of Man O'War

As someone who pretty much only speed paints everything this nearly killed me. Took about a week.

In all honesty I think I need to make the edge highlighting more prominent, but for now it will do.

I try to avoid painting white, especially on flat surfaces like vehicles, but well done, i've spent a long time just thinking about how to speed paint a couple of projects, both my 30k Emperor's Children and Necrons I picked up spontaneously with all the new edition stuff and tonnes of them going cheap, the emphasis on just getting them done. Youtubers talk about how to push your painting to "the next level" etc, but I'm not going to winning or even entering painting competitions so "tabletop standard" is fine for me and i'd rather get more efficient at that level.

Funny that reminds me of my first ever model which was some kind of European jet fighter that came in silver plastic :dread:. I painted bits of it with turquoise blue in enamels, probably not stirred properly so it was translucent. Then several years later (I was under 10 at the time, probably even younger) I repainted it in citadel colours with skull white and some turquoise again. It's actually a really effective scheme. Obviously that wasn't right for the plane (neither was the original of course), but it's funny to see it there and actually make sense with gold!
