Nice, I'm working on adding renegade knights to my backlog chaos marines or run on their own, maybe with some heretic/renegade imperial guard with sentinels (to continue the walker theme) as their retinue or something like that.
I've had a mad idea to resurrect Squats (40k space dwarfs who were written out of the game about 20 years ago) using the not-at-all-coincidental Forge Fathers from Mantic Games. Their models are cheaper but the sculpt quality is a bit lower than GW. Got a bix of 10 of these guys on the way for a test project:
Might mix up the characters with some of the steampunk dwarves from age of sigmar if it works out well, will probably run them as space marines, haven't figured that out yet.
I’d post what I’m currently working on but it looks like absolute shite at the moment, basically a big white box with stuff glued to it. I hate this stage of scratch building/kitbashing/converting stuff because I’m constantly paranoid that if I talk about what it is, someone with more spare time and talent will knock out in a few days what it takes me months to make.

I admire the dedication to an especially non-grimdark theme as well as the technical ability. Orks used to be a lot sillier, i'm glad that is being kept alive.
I dont like the sculpt but this was a very challenging model for me to paint and assemble - took over a strawberry floating week of evenings
I can see a few seam problems which I can correct with a touchup when the glue dries, and the snotling has a crack on its ear where I dropped it and it broke off, luckily I found the 1mm piece and was able to reglue it

Looking great. As for constructive criticism, I don’t really have any but maybe some food for thought instead; when I paint metals which are either dirty or likely to be oiled I like to add either an all-over wash or a little recess wash of agrax earthshade. So on that model for example I’d put a little around the joints of his fingers. Perhaps a little blood spatter on his smock too.
I nuln oiled the hands rather than agrax because I wanted the impression of them being in active use rather than decayed but I think you are right, I’ll touch it up
As for the blood I’ve gone back and forwards on it but I’m just so scared of doing it and making it look bad and screwing it up
It’s the perfect model for a bit of blood but blood is so finicky
If you’re going to try the old trick of flicking the bristles of an old brush with a ruler or something, try it against a piece of paper first to see what kind of colour/thickness works for you. Nothing worse than ruining a good paint job with an effect you’re not really familiar with.
I'd spot paint blood speckles, these may be old colours but try this gradient, and let the paint pool a bit each time as this creates a very minor emboss so it looks like a pool:
chaos black > rhinox hide > scab red > red gore > blood red > gloss
A toothbrush could work but it could go everywhere. Just focus on a few blots (not splodged, think blots of ink on paper. Maybe even try blotting ink on paper and then copy the shapes).
As for technique, they're very good, and for style I really like the direction you're goin in with strong coloiur and cel shadey sort of, impressionist style, I can tell you original 'fancied" warhammer back in the days when eavy metal team where doing this in Red Dwarf (late 90s to early 00s), I think it looks better. I'm talking strong highlights (lines) and not spending a million years blending, or doing that and then adding high contrast highlights to it. Same as me really (so obviously I'd take to it).
Keep going mate. I would maybe add more contrast/grading to the metallics also, either retroactively (try watering down chaos black/abbandon black rather than using a wash and just zig zagging lightly and building up like that from the joins outward) or building up metals with chaos black and trying not to cover all the black (some black is good, retains contrast). I get what you mean about the "new/in-use" metal - they'd be oiled and cleaned up, or self-clean through use, rather than sitting around and being decayed/rusty. So the logic is there. Really just making up gooseberry fool to improve though, it looks great.
Those customisations are epic, I've always wanted to do some big scenarios like that but spent forever imagining and never doing. Bit of a habit of mine. There's still a lot I'd like to do with nids or marines. But I have made some scenery I like. I should get into it more as I can CNC (machine cut) my own stuff similar to laser cutting but way deeper and more geometry - it's actually how they make some of the tanks for Tau at Citadel.

yeah I think Im very much eavy metal style, thats the influence I always had as a youth and the style that seems most natural to me - also wet blending is way way beyond my skill capacity at the moment. I fancy trying but dont really have the sacrificial models yet
I tried to get the black at some points with a double coat of nuln oil but didnt work as well as Id hoped, in future Ill just straight up dip the black on
