Who is the most based member of GRcade?

This thread is based on a depressingly-true story.

I used to be 'based', but then they changed what 'based' was. Now what I am isn't 'based' anymore and what's 'based' seems weird and scary. It'll happen to you!

Is based what the cool kids call someone who's "sound"?

Funny how each generation sees the need to strawberry float the English language up progressively more and more.

I often think if you're the same age as the pioneer of slang, unless you're actually cool as strawberry float, then you're too old though.

I have no evidence for this but I feel it's right.

Like, rappers and bands and that will often be early 20s and that gooseberry fool gets picked up by teens. Whereas if you're like 23 and copying another 23 year old, maybe that's pretty lame. I dunno.

Or e.g. if Tyler the Creator comes up with a new term that's cool, but if I start copying that then that's tragic as strawberry float.

Yeah, I get where you're coming from, it's more to do with the target audience age group than the originating artists. I'm not much into Lil B or know much about his fanbase to take much of a guess at age range, but I'd assume it skews below my age bracket. :lol:

Is Tyler specifically youth oriented? It never really came across to me that way.

My rule (for the most part) tends to be that if I search a term and it leads me to Urban Dictionary, I dismiss it.

Most of all though, I'm curious to know how English teachers cope these days.
