Imagining Alvin in an I Am Legend situation as the only person left living in the US

I'm guessing Americans but I'm sure Trump would have you believe it's all illegal immigrants

It'll be better than the situation now, surrounded by Americans.

I don't live in the states but have friends over there so might be able to answer your request.

Genuine question, does the current atmosphere that side of the pond concern you?

I'm eager to get away from this dump of a country, but America, a larger more divided dump (IMO), is one of the last places I'd consider moving to at the moment.

Yeah it's a good question and one I've mulled a fair bit.

I guess I am slightly bothered, and wouldn't make it my first choice, but my partner is from there and really wants to be back with her parents. There are a few positives as well - the property market isn't insane (yet) and we'd be able to afford buying a nice place. We'd rent for a couple of years first but you get so much more bang for your buck (especially compared to London).

I think to be honest with you, I don't see this country's trajectory doing much better. In a way it almost feels like we'll be worse because Brexit is permanent, whereas at least the US has the odd check and balance that could be tightened up with when Trump is out. I also find I can relax psychologically a bit because the US isn't my country so I don't need to take any responsibility for the shithole it's become, unlike here.

Also, the states is really really big. Each state is basically it's own country anyway, and Illinois is a pretty nice one to be in, with decent laws. Chicago is a really cool city

TL;DR - we are rich enough and white enough to make America actually seem like a decent choice at this stage in our lives.

I think living in a country that isn't yours does make it easier to separate yourself from the political situation. Poland's is strawberry floating horrendous in many ways but they don't have the same mental impact on me that they would if Scotland were implementing the same measures (with the usual caveat of being a straight white male so I'm relatively unaffected).
