If the driver has to stay alert to the possibility of being told to take control at a moments notice doesn't that pretty much negate the point of it being autonomous?

Would you really want to get into a vehicle you had absolutely no control of?

There should always be a human override in place in any autonomous system and in a driverless car, the driver should still be required to be capable of safely operating it without relying on AI assistance in the event of an emergency.

Yes, it would allow me to sleep, be drunk etc. Having to basically be able to take charge at any moment removes most of the benefit.

Yep, I want a car I can get into and have a nice nap and wake up at my destination maybe with a nice cup of coffee presented to me on a stand.

Is that too much to ask for?

You forgot the blowjob before the nap.

Ever been a passenger in a car? Been on a bus? A train? A plane? A ship?

I’d trust a computer over the idiot car and bus drivers that I see. :dread:

Cars are probably the most likely thing to cause accidental death these days and it's usually because of driver carelessness, so I fully expect human controlled vehicles to be banned sometime in the future. Once the statistics show that doing so would save thousands of lives every year no one will be able to sensibly argue against such a ban. Don't get me wrong, I like driving the same way a lot of people probably enjoy smoking, but if giving it up saves families the heartache of losing their loved ones every year I will accept it. Enjoy it while it lasts, I suppose.

Car should eject the passengers and then self destruct

But what about those of us that suffer horribly from motion sickness? They'd have to cure that first before banning driver-less cars, or install easy-clean interiors :slol:

Hah, I am absolutely in charge when I get on the bus. I ding that bell and the big man up front has to let me off! :P

A road network populated entirely by fully automated vehicles will be orders of magnitude safer than what we have now, not to mention being hugely more efficient. I can't wait!

Maybe each car should be tethered to a Tesla/Google executive so when it kills someone it automatically executes a random employee that worked on it's AI.

Dual-ism aside this is the correct answer.

"It should be common sense to just accept the message Nintendo are sending out through their actions."
