We watched all of that because we were interested, but spent most of it laughing at portillo trying to shoehorn Bradshaws in to each conversation.

"What a delightful cup of tea, I'd imagine Bradshaw drinking some of this, in 1882."

I love Michael Portillos travel show. He is the epitome of politeness and his enthusiasm for trains is very enjoyable to watch.

We're going to the Peak District for a few days in October half term.

I always enjoy Portillo's travel shows, especially the continental ones.

Meanwhile, i have a tentative booking on a trip to Loch Lomond in October, so fingers crossed all will be well.

Looks like we are going to have to cancel our hotel in Exeter as its basically turned in to something from The Division during these most covid of times - Pizza boxes littering the corridors, no hot breakfast option, jacuzzi almost certainly brimming with urine.... in a word, CARNAGE.

Jenuall - any recommendations for hotels in Exeter?

We'll be spending our holiday this year touring the UK. At least if a certain area goes bad we can skip it, and if things go gooseberry fool again then we can be home in a few hours rather than stuck somewhere overseas.

Like almost everything to do with the city all hotels in Exeter are of an exceptional standard so you really can't go wrong!

We went here last December. Lovely, plenty of neighbouring areas to visit like Salisbury and Winchester.

Little too pricey given our circumstances so we're going somewhere not too far away. Will still be able to visit the neighbouring towns and cities.

I have actually stayed in a hotel in Exeter once, I think it was the Great Western which as I recall was pretty decent.

Stayed there as we were doing the "Rail Ale Trail" Tarka line for my stag do back in 2007 - basically you ride the train line from Exeter to Barnstaple and drink in a bunch of the pubs along the way. It was a thoroughly enjoyable day (what I can remember of it anyway! )

Of course it was only once, you've never left!

Turns out my last post was a complete lie and we're going to Somerset now and not Wales! We've booked up to stay here in Curry Rival and are looking at building our itinerary now. We're planning to do a day in the neighbouring counties and have started to pin stuff to a Google Map to look at in a bit more detail to start planning our days at.

Any recommendations on things to do in the area that's either less known or a must see?

Bear in mind that getting to some of those places may not be trivial - for example the Eden project is great but it's probably going to be quite a long drive from Somerset!

Can't believe you haven't got Wookey Hole Cave on your list either! :capnscotty:

It's been added!

Once we start to work out what our itinerary is and how long it takes to go to certain places it might make things a bit easier with culling things that we're happy too and deciding on what the essentials are for us.

I'm currently unemployed.

We got married a couple of weeks back and was gifted a decent chunk of cash towards a honeymoon so we've spent some on a UK break until it's a bit safer to be travelling abroad.

If you see a sign with Glastonbury anywhere listed as a destination, turn around and drive the other way.

I've not been there for years, but have good memories of Wookey Hole.

Chewbacca wasn't impressed with me though.

I've not been for a good while either but I too have very fond memories and I know friends who went fairly recently and said it was great so I think it's not just nostalgia talking!

Chewbacca is a right grumpy banana split, I wish he had really died in Rise of Skywalker!
