We went here last December. Lovely, plenty of neighbouring areas to visit like Salisbury and Winchester.

I'm going to Exeter in about a month. I will keep an eye out for Jenuall (obviously).

Its worth going for the massive pizzas you can get from "On the Waterfront"

Especially the way it’s used now.

A staycation is meant to mean a holiday where you stay in your own home and do holiday-type day trips etc. The way it’s used to mean any holiday in the UK is dreadful. There’s already a word for that: holiday. The idea that it’s not a holiday if you don’t leave the country is strawberry floated up and offensive.

I didn’t know people used it to mean holidays in your home country. I thought a staycation was when you just stayed at home. Odd.

Anyway, we went to the Lake District and then Dundee last week. It was very nice. Pitlochry is beautiful.

:fp: I'm such a philistine.

In my defence that was my first thought (though i was not sure if it was from a film with that title, i was going for "Streetcar"), but instead i naturally assumed it was an implication that anyone who eats pizza on a holiday is a thug.

I went to Lyme Regis recently, which was nice but I imagine the centre is awful in more normal times, as it's very small. Even though everything was only just starting to open up again, there were times when it all felt too cramped and busy with people. However there are plenty of opportunities for interesting coastal walks in large open areas. Seeing real fossils along the Jurassic Coast is pretty cool!

I've never been to somewhere like Butlin's or Centre Parcs before, but I have sort of wanted to. Has anyone got experience of Centre Parcs over the last 2-3 years or so?

I don't think Centre Parcs would be happy to be mentioned in the same breath as Butlins....

My understanding of them (Centre Parcs) is that they are very nice and typically have lots of good walks / cycle routes in the vicinity, but you certainly pay for the privilege.

A mate of mine went last weekend, said it's very nice and operating at 40% capacity, plus once the rooms are vacated, they don't let anyone in for weeks.

Yeah Centre Parcs and Butlins are really not the same thing at all!

Only Centre Parc I've been to is one in Paris (Villages Nature) and it was strawberry floating brilliant - lots of outdoors things to do and a brilliant swimming pool. My understanding is that the ones here are basically the same just less French

Went to Bluestone in Wales which is basically the same kind of thing as well and that was also excellent.

I go to Pembrokeshire every year. Better than Devon and Cornwall.

Going to St Ives in a couple of weeks for my belated birthday gift, and then supposed to be going to Istanbul end of September dependant on the flight situation.

Personally would rather do neither at the moment with the current situation but would get into a lot of trouble if I suggested we postpone/cancel. We were supposed to be going to London this weekend and Bristol the following but have now postponed until Christmas and don't dare suggest we do the same with the other trips. :dread:

Living in Yeovil (eurgh) does have 1 positive in that I can get to Lyme Regis, West Bay, Exmouth or Weymouth in about 40 mins. All Nice places and worth a look but imagine very busy at the moment.

I went out with a girl from Yeovil and we went to the nightclub there. It was called "Le Jardin". I don't know if it's a true story, but she told me it used to be called "The Garden" but somebody carried out an arson attack on it and when they reopened they wanted to be classier.

They failed, it was a shithole.

Madness. I think what you meant to say was "there is strawberry float loads to do in Inverness, but strawberry float all without a car" ;)

Just off the top of my head you have:

Loch Ness
Culloden Battlefield
Four or five well-known castles
Fort Augustus Abbey
Fort George
The Cairngorms
Highland Wildlife Park
Glen Affric
Dolphin watching at Cromarty
Loads of distilleries.

Granted if you aren't into the outdoors (or drinking) there isn't much in the city itself. Although saying that within 5 minutes walk of the city centre are some of the most picturesque walks you will find in any city in the UK. You could easily find enough to do in Inverness for a long weekend without a car, or rent a car if you want to make it a week.

Plus with the current pandemic you won't have the usual swarms of tourists that get in the way during summer. Although I bet there will be a strawberry float tonne of caravans on the A9.

</slightly biased but not really because The Highlands are amazing>

FWIW I love the highlands And was being a bit flippant, sorry! We were in Inverness in February and went through to Urquhart Castle which was bloody lovely, but there’s no way you can see a lot of the sights without a car or a bus tour. Inverness itself doesn’t have *that* much for tourists to do, you definitely need to go out into the surrounding areas.

Also, I never want to drive on the A9 again. Was at an interview at UHI in November and drove past a tanker that had decided to just roll off the road and go upside down, and two cars further up that had done likewise. I gather that is pretty standard for the road. :slol: :dread:

Shame Albear, I am going to Bristol for a night out next weekend. We could have shouted GRcade memes at each other.

I'll just have to settle for Moggy instead .

Centre Parcs sounds pretty good then! Would be really keen at the moment with reduced capacity as well.
