I went out with a girl from Yeovil and we went to the nightclub there. It was called "Le Jardin". I don't know if it's a true story, but she told me it used to be called "The Garden" but somebody carried out an arson attack on it and when they reopened they wanted to be classier.

They failed, it was a shithole.

I've lived in worse towns (Hatfield!)

Looking to move soon, either back east to Hertfordshire (expensive) or Bristol (also expensive).

Oh god Le Jardin, I've been there! All I remember is it being in the corner of some back street, and just kind of standing around in bemusement at the place.

In Perth in Australia, there was an Irish pub on some wasteland building site, and the pub was called 'The Bog' It was rough as strawberry float, just as you'd expect. Amazingly, they rebrand while we were there (we stayed in the area for 3 months) and renamed it to 'La Bog Inn'   It was exactly the same place, strawberry floating amazing. It's still there as far as I know.

I'm launching an official Moggy Hunt .

Got a reservation at somewhere called the Bambalan Beach Bar for dinner. Any good? Booked several other places as well.. I've not looked into it, so just trusting my friends that they won't be total gooseberry fool tips!

Any suggestions for a good place to go for a drink?

Not read the rest of the thread but I went to Padstow a few years ago and rented a cottage - was a really nice place.

Never heard of Bambalan Beach Bar. There are no beaches here so don't get your hopes up.

What sort of place are you looking for? Classy? Fun? Rough but cheap? I've not been out since lockdown so I've no idea what the atmosphere is like in any of the pubs at the moment.

What we've discovered in this thread is that just adding some French words makes pubs/clubs a much posher experience.

Personally would rather do neither at the moment with the current situation but would get into a lot of trouble if I suggested we postpone/cancel. We were supposed to be going to London this weekend and Bristol the following but have now postponed until Christmas and don't dare suggest we do the same with the other trips. :dread:

Living in Yeovil (eurgh) does have 1 positive in that I can get to Lyme Regis, West Bay, Exmouth or Weymouth in about 40 mins. All Nice places and worth a look but imagine very busy at the moment.

If you want to be a pretentious twat then head to Clifton. Anywhere up there should fit the bill.

More centrally I can't think of anywhere too pretentious, they are just your usual mix of 'spoons style places. King Street has your craft beer pubs, there's a Brewdog not too far from there.

There's a place called "Zero Degrees" that's a poncey microbrewery, but it does have nice drinks. https://www.zerodegrees.co.uk/

Or try one of these places: https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/whats-on/ ... -bars-7381

I can't recommend them though as I've never been in any of them!

I didn't know you had a BrewDog  definitely going there but will keep it a secret so GRcade doesn't find out :shifty:.

Thanks though, King Street sounds decent as we are all craft beer fans, so will be sure to check it out.

There's a Zero Degrees in Reading too, it's a great way of spending too much money on a pint you don't really want. Nice place tho :P

Avoid the King William Alehouse on King Street unless you want to take out a mortgage first....

The Small Bar on King Street ought to be your sort of thing. I think it's cashless now so should fit your need for a pretentious place.

ZeroDegrees are everywhere these days, and also gooseberry fool.

Been to a good few places in Bristol on work nights out and there's definitely a good variety of options. My tastes lean toward the more traditional "old man pub" side of things so places like The Hope & Anchor, Bag of Nails, and Coronation Tap are high on my list.

Yeah I'd avoid the more trendy places and go looking for an old pub down by the water or something. Far more character the Le Spoons

Sorry Mr Beerman.

You're workmates might be different to most, but good luck persuading a group of people in an unfamiliar city to go wandering off to somewhere like the Coronation Tap.

Cori Tap is great!

Down by river is a good shout though, there are plenty of "trendy" type places - Left Handed Giant is nice for example (and quite close to BrewDog as well I think?)
