I haven't gone fully vegetarian yet, but we have three days a week eating vegetarian, the aim is to go full time vegetarian.

We have cut dairy 100% out of the house.

Did you notice weight loss after cutting dairy? I got to a point where I was down to tuna, skimmed dairy milk and dairy yoghurt, when I cut those things out I lost about a stone (which was about 10% of my total weight at the time) in the first month until my body stabilised. The only thing I could ever put it down too was dairy which is weird because the milk was skimmed, yoghurt I only had about 200g a day and I never ate cheese.

Yeah absolutely, we all lost a little weight due to cutting out dairy. Thing is dairy bloats us even if you’re not intolerant to dairy, as our stomachs weren’t meant to process that.

Also we recently swapped Lurpak to real butter and my god the taste difference. So creamy and salty. Made the best scrambled eggs this morning I've had in years.

Cutting out dairy means giving up your dairy tolerance though right? It seems a pretty big decision that you can't turn back from.

Couldn't be a vegan, but I eat more non-meat meals than meat meals these days so feel like I could repel a direct vegan attack until reinforcements arrived.

I try to be vegetarian for breakfast and lunch during the week, and I'm trying to collect more vegan recipes. I try to bin off "pointless" meat like wafer thin ham and the like, and I actually prefer veggie pizzas now. As much as a pepperoni pizza is brilliant, it can be a bit samey. The variety in taste and texture of a veggie pizza keeps your palate fresh. I'm aware I'm lucky enough to have a choice though, and there's still very much a place for cheaper luncheon meats.

Dropping dairy and eggs is a much bigger challenge. Aside from their taste, they are so chemically important in a lot of cooking that without them it's like trying to build a shed without nails/screws. Not impossible, but a lot of thought needs to go into it.

Were you previously like having a fry-up every morning? I thought breakfast was a pretty vegetarian meal as standard (unless there is something in cornflakes or toast I'm unaware of).

Could be referring to eggs?

Vegetarians normally eat eggs, don't they?

Yep but I can see how people would consider eggs to be meat adjacent.

I don't eat any seafood, lamb or pork, and the rare time I would eat beef is just the occasional burger when eating out (though I'm interested to try an Impossible Burger instead to see if it's as good as people say). I do however eat chicken about 4 times per week and I'm unlikely to give up dairy entirely.

I have a limited diet already due to having difficulty chewing and swallowing a lot of foods so if I completely cut out all animal products I'd be living on tomato soup, bread and Lotus biscuits.

I also love cheese far too much to stop eating dairy and coffee just isn't the same with almond milk.

Also, I have semi-permanent pressure sores om my back that are treated with honey, which afaik vegans won't use/eat.

I don't mind the odd Vegan Burgers that you can get from Morrisons, but you can't beat a bit of meat.

I am morally opposed to said industry despite partaking in it, but I'm not morally opposed to more traditional farming (in the sense of scale and method, not an aversion to technology) where animal welfare is an important factor.

I do however wish pigs weren't so damn intelligent. I'm much more comfortable eating a chicken!

From an environmental perspective I consciously avoid eating beef except on rare occasions, similar to how I try to fly infrequently - diet and flying are pretty much the two areas individuals can make a meaningful impact.

I also don't eat much fish, where the environmental concerns are less climate driven and more the large scale over-exploitation and destruction of the environment.

OR, what are your thoughts on the the following scenario (and don't worry, I ain't gonna get offended over this so just be honest):

Goat farming. Looking after the goats like they're family, always giving them free time to run around the field, enjoy the fresh air etc, always making sure that they're happy. But ultimately raising them for slaughter.
One of the hardest things about the farm is that if there's a goat I get fond of, they're still going to end up in the abertoire or even in my own stomach :fp:

A lot of vegetarian foods I don't like the taste of. I did have Tofu in my Udon Noodles in Wagamama before and really liked it. I don't really eat a lot of meat anymore. Most of the time I just have beans on toast. Yum.
