Many houses in Europe seem to have electronic blinds that come down on the OUTSIDE of the window. I haven't decided if it reminds me of a plane cockpit or jail.

My parents use them. To be honest they look alright. They're not the old patterned 'granny' style ones, they're just a thin, plain white curtain, which looks pretty good. Stops all the nosey strawberry floaters looking in as they walk past, lets the light in, and looks decent. Don't have them myself - I'd probably prefer blinds - but there's definitely a use (and market) for them.

We have blinds. Paid a pretty penny for them but they look tremendous and shut out everything.

I go to Spain every year as my parents have a place there. I've often found it odd how europe does this whilst we don't. It as major security benefits. I don't really mind the appearance of it as I suppose I'm used to seeing it there however if I suddenly went and installed them at my house then it would look bloody weird as the only house in the street like it.

Pro tip: buy all the rolls at the same time, I didn't and to be frank I'm disappointed with the results...

But the opaque white roll I accidentally bought won't suddenly become translucent like the original roll my wife got :slol:

They have to be washed, though. Yellowing nets :dread: . Once a year is enough... warm water and a bit of sparkle. Nets 8-) :toot: .

Oh strawberry float, I see now

I thought that was the peel-off backing to the roll!

I have proper curtains but we have sash windows that are incredibly thin so applying stuff isn't really an option, maybe on the double glazing. We have only the lower half to the window out onto the street covered with a net, which has a simple leafy pattern (not flowers lol). Needed to be done as we have a lot of footfall on the street so had curtains shut all the time. This way we get loads of daylight.

Plus it cost about £4 from fabric shop with fixtures and took 10 minutes, job done.

Also better for security as we have big TV and loads of AV clearly visible otherwise.

Upstairs we have wooden blinds and nothing at the rear, real privacy glass in the bathroom.

My neighbour has proper indoor shutters but she is house proud nosy old banana split who turns her nose up at dirty window sills and brooms the pavement every few days, the type of person who doesn't even realise they have moved into upper class but like to pretend they are just classy and wholesome by being "worried" about the state of the gardens 2 doors down both sides because of "drainage".

But that's another story. Terraced neighbourhoods. :dread:
