Here's a guide to what you need and where you can find them.

I'm not that worried. It's just a pain I can't use weapons I used to like without going out of my way.

I've just been using new weapons as I get them and been doing okay.

I didn't even know half of those weapons existed, why the strawberry float would I search around a base when I was meant to be trying to pursue a guy and be stealthy? So many silly little design decisions. I shouldn't have to resort to a guide to do in game quests.

Erm...in that instance isn't it BECAUSE you're sneaking around that you get the weapon? It's a reward for exploring further than you needed to during a given mission. No different to loads of other games.

Yeah, the bases in this game are huge and you only sneak through a small part of it whenever you're in so I'm not sure why you wouldn't think a military base has toys stashed away. And you can always go back and loot them later. Some quests even send you back there post-game.

I really should get round to fighting not-Ultima Weapon again after he beat my ass raw, but right now I'm working through the sealed doors. Glad the first one was the giant flan because I can NOT be strawberry floated dealing with that bullshit at higher levels.

Everyone's tier 3 techniques also take absolutely ages to level and the two I'm using don't really seem much better than their cheaper skills. I can see Prompto's being great if each hit guaranteed a crit, which I guess level 2 would be, but just stick with 3 Enhances with Ignis or an Overwhelm.

I haven't even tried fighting him yet but seen some vids and it looks a nightmare.

I'm saving up AP to get the skill that breaks the damage limit on Link Strikes as I hear it's pretty useful.

What I dislike about those bases well the only one I went back to anyway is that even after conquering it it's still populated with enemies. Surely once you've cleared the gaff out you should be free to explore at your leisure.

All those ropey chapters toward the end I can forgive be but Pitioss? There is no forgiving Pitioss. It is without a doubt one of the worst sections I have played in any game, seriously what were they thinking? What makes this even worse? I'm only about 2/3 of the way through it :dread:

It's a good idea and it works in some places, but it REALLY overstays its welcome. The reward is gooseberry fool too.

I'm on chapter 13 now, oh god, please don't let this go on for too long. I'm bored of holding circle and flipping switches already.

Can someone please explain to me why all of the bad guys swapped aliegences?

Ravusis seemingly secretly a good guy now, I don't understand. Maybe I'd get it more if I understood what the goal of the empire was in the first place. None of what they do makes any sense to me because I don't understand their goal. Or Noctis goal either for that matter. Is he trying to take down an entire nation on his own?

Don't worry, you didn't miss anything about Ravus, it's just explained amazingly terribly. So much so they recorded a whole new patch worth of backstory for him.

Noctis has been chosen as the King of Light since he was a child, destined to fight back the nondescript Darkness with the help of the Oracle. To do so he needs the blessing of the crystal and the ring of the Lucii, which the oracle was safeguarding. Unfortunately the empire stole the crystal when they attacked Insomnia, destroying Noctis' army and then later killed Luna so he's pretty much on his own even if he wanted help. His goal is basically to just get his crystal back while going on a roaring rampage of revenge against the empire and Ardyn.

Fortunately the Empire had been experimenting with Daemons in order to turn them into weapons in the war against Insomnia because the emperor is a kleptomaniac and wants total world domination. They knew the crystal was able to control daemons in some way so they used the peace signing to get in close to both it and the king of Insomnia and take them both at once. A bit later they get word that Noctis is doing what he's doing and so, knowing about the old legends of a king fighting alongside the gods, try and do what they can to slay them to slow him down. They don't kill Noctis outright despite having a chance to do so many times because Ardyn is there to call them off. It's around the time Ardyn kills Luna that the Daemons in the capital city labs start overrunning everything. The empire aren't so much the driving force as the spark that kicks off the story.

Aranea was never on anybody's side. She starts off completely neutral and works for the highest bidder, who was the empire. After a while she starts learning that the empire is using daemons in weapons research and her morals outweigh her greed so she and her mercenary band cut all ties with them and instead return to being daemon hunters.

The real interesting and confusing part is Ardyn, but his major plot dump happens at the end of 13 so I won't go into it here. I'll just say that I really like how they handle him.

As for Chapter 13, it goes on a long-ass time. And no, it's not just you. They got so much negative feedback about it that it's part of the game they're changing with the "Ravus patch". It has some good lore dumps in it, but the gameplay is extremely boring.

I'm just glad it's over. I know of at least one notable item I have missed the acessory Genji Gloves but like hell am I going back for it. Can't even remember how to get to the room it's in.

:toot: I finally caught Liege of the La... omfg it's vesper gar :| :x

And that fight with (ch 9 "climax" spoiler) leviathan  :tediousaf: It was like a 101 of How not to do God Mode Fights.

The cutscene afterwards was well done, though. SE sure know how to do that well, eh. I mean I didn't even feel all that emotionally invested in her or her relationship, but that scene did its intended job.

Took down the base where you collect the cactaur for the SQ. Used XP imbued spell on the final 2 mechs. Ended up with, like, 90k XP after all was said and done (cleared base first time, then again when looking for cactaur) and went from lvl 46 to a *sliver* under 50.

I'm level 52 now, just about 40hrs played, end of chapter 8. I was never particularly interested in the story anyway, it was spoiled for me ages ago and I can't bring myself to leave the open world and go into grinding linearity for ages. Will have to grit my teeth and get on with it tomorrow I think.

Man, this game is such a timesink. Never did any fishing really and did some with the vague aim of getting a plat, then fished for like...an hour and a half. One hundred exp x 2 to bank before I get on with the MQ.
